Purchased a few of these over the years to ship expensive 2k dollar rifles. It's cheap enough to make it worthwhile doing, sturdy enough that I know it'll get there safe. And yes, it does come in a box for shipping. The box is flimsy but if you tape it up well, it'll get the job done.

I purchased two of these cases to carry (mainly scoped) rifles during a recent move. I had acquired several Pelican long gun cases during my time in the military, but needed additional cases, and wasn't fond of spending the several hundred dollars purchasing 52" Pelican cases with foam would have cost me. Given the price of the Plano case, they are an absolutely huge bargain. While definitely not as robust as a Pelican or similar case, the construction is solid, and the 'Pillar Lock' design seems to work quite well. Each case has six locking latches that engage positively, keeping the two halves closed with no wobble or bend, and there are several reinforced locations to use your own lock(s). I have not measured yet, but the thinnest areas of the case appear to be around 1/4" or so. The Plano case is not waterproof or airtight, but it does not claim to offer those features. The interior of the case has several mounting points for included polymer 'ladders' that allow for the firearms inside to be tied down, further securing them. Locking washers, a plastic push tool, and nylon tie down straps are included, but I would not recommend using the push tool, as it's my one complaint: The installation push tool does not allow for enough force to reliably engage the lock washers for the tie down ladders, and I found that a hardened eyelet-setting die and brass gunsmith's hammer worked much better. The interior foam is also pre-cut to allow for the tie downs to pass through it and the mounted 'ladders'.Overall, I am extremely pleased with the value and quality of this product.Packaging/Shipping Note: These items ship as individual shipments, in their own boxes. If you are not using a free shipping method, you will have to pay extra, and some may not feel comfortable with the boxes sitting on their doorstep, as they clearly depict what is inside them.

Contrary to what the top review says that this does not fit an AR15, it does, depending on the situation. It will fit perfectly if you detach anything on the upper rail. In other words, if you have a backsight that can be snapped down, or are willing to remove a carry handle, optics, scope, then this case fits the rifle perfectly. If you want to keep your upper rail accessories and scopes there, and are willing to separate the upper and lower to be better positioned to make the most of the case's space, I am fairly sure both will fit.Beyond that, if you've pimped out your rifle with many accessories attached, this is probably not the case for you unless you're willing to detach them for transport.I locked the case down and everything fits snug with very little wasted empty space, which to me is actually a plus. There is no exposed space except in the handle area, which, while not a good thing, isn't a terrible thing -- I tried to pry the case open with this small open space and it was not possible with normal force (read: it's thick plastic and you'd need to crank it open with a screwdriver and then some). I do feel like the case and foam are thick enough to take a reasonable hit if you dropped the case or dropped a 20-40 pound object on it. But at the same time, I definitely would not use this as a case to a high-end rifle because it's a no frills plastic case. All in all, this is actually a good case. I had my doubts having read all these reviews, but it paid off since I was looking for a simple, compact, sturdy case and this fits the bill.

I have a couple of rifles that I regularly take to the range for plinking and general target shooting. I got tired of hauling around two hard cases and a range bag and ammo boxes every time I went to the range. I have had other Plano cases. For the money, they're generally good. They aren't airline cases. In fact, they're barely suitable for getting to and from the range. My last Plano Single-Gun case is missing one of the closures, but has been working fine as-is.This case is just BARELY big enough for my two rifles. It's a double-sided case and you can only access each side one at a time. You lay the case down, open it, remove or insert your rifle, close it, flip it and repeat on the other side. I have a Ruger Mini 14 with a Nikon Optic and a Ruger 10/22 with an UltraDot optic and it's a pretty tight fit. There's a thin plastic "grate" between the two halves with egg crate foam material so it cushions adequately and keeps the guns from slamming into one another, but it's a little tight. With one side loaded and locked, the other side is a little tricky to get closed. It's pretty tight and getting the thin plastic edges to line up is tricky. Once it's all in place, though, it clamps securely shut and stays that way until you open it up. There are several locking points on the case for anyone interested in a padlock. Personally, I don't store my guns in it. This is a transportation case.I can carry my 10/22 with 16.5" barrel and my Mini 14 in this case and still have room for magazines or a pistol or two if I choose.Pros:LightweightInexpensivePlenty of Length for Long RiflesSturdy Handle and HardwareCons:A Little Tight (Would have liked and extra inch or two on the widthFlimsy (Can make closing it tricky)Not Airline Friendly (I wouldn't trust it to keep my guns safe from the harshness of flying)All in all, I think this is a great case for the money. There are better cases for much more money out there, but if you need something to get you to and from the range with a couple of rifles, this will do the trick.
