Think library stacks, not old book store stacks. If you want the old book store? Add a drop of patchouli, a couple or so drops each of leather and sweet tobacco to 10 or so drops of this.

the smell is more like a toasted vanilla than the old glue and mildew smell of books it's VERY subtle. like I rubbed it into my hand and that's when I smelt it the most. I've ran it a few times through my defuse with a ver generous amount in it with no aroma in my small room. not a bad smell but this product is almost useless so that's why it gets 1 ☆.

The smell of this oil when diffused is so amazing! My whole family loves this!My husband rubbed a few drops into his wrists and forearms and is now begging for his own bottle to wear daily. It does smell so handsome on his skin!

My first review title: Horrible cloying stale perfume smell, not “book” at all. There were a lot of mixed reviews but I thought I’d try this anyway because I was craving old book smells so much. The negative reviews are all true. The smell is overwhelmingly old lady perfume, with a slight mustiness that says “stale perfume,” not “book” at all. Plus it gives me a headache.Update: to my surprise, the scent has changed significantly over about 6 weeks. It’s much more mellow now, very vanilla-ish, which is indeed rather like a book. I have it in my diffuser with a bit of mint and sandalwood. It’s ok. I probably won’t buy it again. I’ve found some other book-inspired scents elsewhere which I prefer. But it’s actually pleasant now. I wonder how much more it will change over time?

This is about as close as you're going to get to the sweet, paper-y smell of a used bookstore. I've used it to make lotions and wax melts, and the scent is strong and lasts quite a while.

The reviews made me really anxious that it wouldn’t smell like books at all! But I bought it to try it, I said if it smells NOTHING like books I’d return it. In what may seem a shocking turn of events for some… it smells pretty much like books and granny perfume. The opening notes are that artificial floral scent you may associate with department stores but after that initial affront, it smells just like old books. The type of leather bound book that smells like it’s owner rather than dust, but just under that well-used-smell you get that wonderful stale aroma of the ink and paper. It’s exactly what’s advertised if you go in with realistic expectations. It’s not bottled books or a stoppered library, it’s a perfume scented to remind you of books.
