Pine Bark Fines

Pine Bark provides excellent water retention and improves oxygen levels in the soil. It retains nutrients over a long period of time, absorbing and storing an increased amount of nutrients, releasing them at an accelerated rate.

Pine bark fines benefit soil and plants by retaining moisture, protecting plants from extreme cold or heat, and preventing the spread of soil-borne diseases.

Works well for potting orchids if you have some sphagnum moss to mix it with to hold the chips together. The smaller size chips will not be able to hold the roots in place otherwise. Kind of expensive for what you get.

I’ve gotten other pumice stone that wasn’t the size it was advertised to be and was extremely dusty. I figured give this a go and see what happened. There was low dust, the pebbles are the size as advertised. Excellent value for the money, seems to be retaining the right amount of moisture.

We propagate baby cactus, and use these for the medium until they're ready to plant in soil. Works great.

This was a great option for my smaller houseplants. It is high quality and drains well, even better when combined with a terracotta pot! Not to mention the smell is delightful. Two bags combined with my own soil mixture planted 1 medium sized plant and 2 small plants. I have 3 large monsteras that I had to choose a cheaper option for because of how much they would need. So if you have some big girls, you might want to consider a more economical option.

I initially purchased this rock years ago to us in a bonsai but couldn't decide which plant I wanted so it sat on my potting bench for a year or two. Just recently I needed to re-pot a Christmas Cactus so I used the lava rock as part of the filler soil and spread the leftover on top. It works well for drainage and looks good as well. This purchase is for re-potting my plants in the future.

I got into the houseplant hobbie a couple of years ago and it has been a struggle keeping my plants healthy, some more than others. I've watched lots of you tube tutorials on switching my plants to an alternative growing media other than soil. It seems like switching all together may not work, also depends on the plants needs. After watching a lot of full length videos on the subject, it took one short from the Plant Guys on pumice. In this particular video they say you don't need to remove all the soil from your plant, basically leave the soil on the ball root and fill your pot with pumice all around. That seems to be doing it for my plants. This is the first brand of pumice I have ever purchased (I'm on my 2nd or 3rd bag), and it seems legit, like pure and not mixed with other materials. It is a small amount, and not cheap. Considering I will be needing pumice on a regular basis, I've been looking for larger bags at a decent price but they all seem to be mixed with other types of rocks or pebbles. I'll try another and if it don't work, I'll be back for this one.
