  • And two printed gray scales that go from white to black
  • When folded the View Finder measures 5-1/16x11 inches

This is a simple yet very useful tool for all visual artists. There are three value filters/view finders in transparent red (the red film helps to neutralize colors so you can concentrate on values) three clear gridded viewfinders that help you to find your best composition and two printed gray scales that go from white to black (one printed on a separate insert). There are also printed ratio finders a table of measurements instructions for choosing the best size for your composition instructions for enlarging or reducing using a graph and more instructions on using the Three in One Plus View Finder. Printed on heavy duty bi-folded card stock. When folded the View Finder measures 5-1/16x11 inches.

Good concept but...the plastic is not flat so the slight curves in the surface make it bothersome to not see clearly and the cardboard can't be folded flat enough to bring the surfaces together. I will likely cut a filter and a grid window and tape them together. That way it will also fit more easily into my pochade.

I use this product in my art work. It came well packaged and was reasonably priced.

This is the third one I've bought. I use it at home and at work. An invaluable tool for 'framing' a scene and seeing angles correctly. Also very nice for helping students see different values rather than just hues.

For years, I made my own viewfinders and am so happy to find these! I'll not only use it myself, but will also recommend it to my students.Viewfinders are regularly used at the Art Students League in New York and it would be great if more art schools incorporated them. For anyone drawing or painting from life or nature, the Picture Perfect 3 in 1 viewfinder/valuefinder will make your job much easier and is the best I've seen on the market these days.

It is great to keep in mind your compositions and the ratio for your thumbnails and final piece of art. I use it all the time!

I think this little tool is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think it is a little overpriced, but whoever came up with it is very clever to roll some handy tools into one. I have taken many many art classes and two things always come up. 1) How to find good focal points or centers of interest. and 2) discerning values when all you see is a sea of color. The rectangles are also standard ratios of height and width, which you can use to position your subject into a pleasing composition. I have been searching for the red film and this finally fit the bill. An instructor told us to find the film that quilters use to determine values. Now I have this handy tool plus others too!

I shared my Picture Perfect View Finder with my students a couple of weeks ago, showing them how to use the golden mean and the value finder together in order to focus on better composition. Everyone wanted one! I purchased mine at a workshop more than 10 years ago and am still using it! One of the most versatile and user friendly view finders I've found!

The 3 in 1 Plus was recommended by one of my art teachers. Other teachers have recommended using the red or green film because as you look through it, the colors are grayed out and you see only the light and dark values, enabling you to achieve a balanced composition by first viewing the scene you are drawing, painting, etc., then checking your work to see if your dark, mid-range and light areas match the reality. If you are working in the abstract, you still want to have a balance of values throughout your composition. In addition to the red films, this viewfinder has clear films with grid marks, which help one transfer a large, 3-dimensional scene onto a small, 2-dimensional piece of paper. The three grids correspond proportionately to common paper sizes that you might be using for your work.I haven't had a chance to use this very much yet so I gave it four stars instead of five, but it surely seems like a useful tool.
