The Photogenic Ion Lithium-ion Pure Sine Wave Inverter System allows you to take your studio strobes on the road or off the road without electricity and without noisy generators or bulky old-style inverters. Weighing in at only 3.5 lb including its battery, the Ion measures only 7.5 x 4.4 x 3.3 but is able to deliver hundreds or even thousands of full power flashes depending on the flash head in use. For example, Photogenic''s 1,000W/s PL1000DR gets 300 full power flashes on a fully charged battery while their AKC160 will get a whopping 2,050 flashes from the same battery. Of course, you can double or triple your capacity by simply purchasing extra batteries which can be charged apart from the inverter. Extra chargers are available to charge more than 1 battery concurrently. Convenience features include a USB port to power computers and other electronic devices and an LED fuel gauge that allows you to check on remaining power at a glance. The system includes the ION Inverter, battery, charger, light stand clamp and strap. Note: flash capacity specs are based on Photogenic flash heads but other brands of flash heads may be used with the inverter. Power input is 100 to 265VAC, 50/60Hz but output is 120V only.

This Inverter system has totally opened up so many new options for shooting. I love to use my Alien Bee Strobes as much as possible wherever I shoot. This product has made it possible. It is compact, efficient and well thought out. The way that it can be clamped to a stand is very smart and compact. If you choose to carry it on you, you'll be surprised that it is not cumbersome nor extremely heavy. I definitely recommend it.

A little antsy, on finding the actual power limit, but pretty good overall.

If you are not serious nor has 1000ws or higher monolight, then it's alright to use. That two 110ACV ports are useless on my Photogenic PL2500DR (1000ws) and Broncolor Minicom 160 (1200ws).I used & tested on my two Profoto D1 Air rated at 1000ws each. And two ATG Gold Indra800.When tested at full 1/1 power, the ION didn't get them popping. Even when I only used one. Then I contacted ATG and they say they use & recommend me to get the Hyundai HY2000si 2200-Watt Portable Inverter Generator. The Hyundai HY2000Si was a God sent for using those high power monologhts. My staff no longer worry about running low on battery & have to wait for long hours of recharging it.This awesome inverter runs on gas. So when you run out of juice (power), just add gas to it.When the staff are not using the monolights in the fields, the HY2000Si is used to power laptops, cell phones and make coffees.

I just used these for a photoshoot yesterday. I have Photogenic Studio Max iii 320's and I placed one of these on each strobe. The recycle time was practically zero and they were very easy to use and operate. I shot for 3 hours straight and they lasted the entire duration with no hiccups.

Having used much larger, heavier inverters as well as generators to power lighting gear on location, the Photogenic Ion is a dream come true. I still have a hard time believing it produces as much power as it does in that small and light of a package. Not only will it provide power for things like Bowens monolights, it has no problem powering full sized Dynalite packs and heads. And while you won't want to use modeling lights much if at all, it will still give you power for hundreds or even thousands of shots depending on how much power you need. The recycle time is a bit slower than if you were plugged into AC, but it seems very consistent. As long as you slow down and allow it to do it's job, no problem. And it's silent, unlike a certain much larger inverter that constantly whines and squeals under load. The whole package and battery feel solid, well-made and the interface is simple and elegant. The stand mount works perfectly. I feel confident that I could take this on location with me to provide power for almost anything I need--battery chargers, laptops, cell phones, lights and more.

I'd give it a 5-star, but because it resets my monolight after every time I click my shutter, I am rating this a 4-star. I like how portable it is and the fact that it has two outlets and a USB charging port. However, after every shot I take, it resets my monolight which causes an annoying BEEPING sound from my monolight unit. The beep occurs to indicate that my strobe has been turned on or reset, so I can't definitely use this when I am out shooting wedding events since it can be of a distraction towards the important things going on. Other than that, I do think it is great for location photography since it is light weight, very portable and has a lot of power output to my 300 w/s monolights.

Works well. Power isn't consistant, but for the price I wasn't expecting much.
