It helps to have as much of the original hex hole still intact.Once the hex hole starts to round significantly, these things are useless.The metal bit feels pretty hard, and it will eat most of your cheapie (i.e. Made in China) stainless steel fasteners, so be careful.It works well on regular steel fasteners (cap screws, etc.).
