I was disappointed that these pen blanks did not come with the actual wood parts. I mistook the sleeves in the picture for wood blanks. Other than that they look to be of good quality. I’m still waiting on some pen blanks to try them out but I did use one to replace the parts in a wood pen I had already. They fit fine and were of better quality than the pieces that came with the original pen. I’m anxious for the pen blanks to come and looking forward to turning them and making some nice gift pens.

This Slimline Pen Turning Supplies Twist Pen Kit is a pretty decent set. I do a lot of resin and wood art.I have made several other pens, stainless steel ones using pigments, glitter and foils with epoxy resin and have only just ventured into the wood ones so this is my first dealings with these types of kits. I feel that everything that was included you really cannot go wrong.Everything was packaged nicely, separately so it doesn't' get scratched in transit-that is a win-win right there alone!Now obviously if you are just starting out you do need a lot of other equipment do make these pens successfully. These are just the mechanisms to help complete your wooden pens. It will give you everything you need to complete a wooden pen EXCEPT the wood itself which you will create by using a sander, lathe, carving etc., and then adding these inside that pen shape.Instructions come with this is a full page print out document that is extremely thorough on what is included and how to use it. It may be a bit confusing for someone that has never ventured into the pen-making arena. There are lots and lots of videos on YouTube that can assist here.Overall I would definitely recommend this kit to anyone for simply the price point. For everything that you are getting including the leather pouches, it's very inexpensive & a fantastic starting point.

Upon visual inspection of the kits, I did not see any blemishes on the parts. These look to be very nice kits with an ink cartridge that writes very smoothly.These are very reasonably priced based on what I've paid for slim line kits before and the simplicity of the kit will let the overall design of the pen shine through.I will likely get again as I'm not sure I've seen a better price when broken down per kit.One word of warning, if you are a new turner, these do not include the bushings necessary, you will have to supply those on your own. A standard 7mm slimline pen kit bushing set should work fine.

All the components to make wooden pens… except the wood. Other pen kits I’ve looked at are for fussy fountain pens; these use a much more practical ball point system. It would be nice to have some fittings for a wider center, so that the pens did not all need to be skinny or wasp-waisted, but that’s my only complaint.

These are nice pen kits at a low cost per unit. The mechanism is smooth and the fit and finish is good. The instructions that came with the kit are well written and complete. The leather sleeves that come with the pen kits will do a good job protecting your work when the pen is not in use.

over all I am Meh on these they are likely the worse pen kits I have used, but thats only a few kits over all as I have only made 30 pens so far, so lets get down to detailsfirst photo is side by side of one of my other pen kits on the left, and this kit on the right, they use the same transmission (the part the you turn to show the pen tip) the ink well from this kit is alot smaller, like 1/3 the size and then the brass tubes, the ones from this kit are dull and odd (more on that later)second and third photos, the 8.1g one is from same set of kits as the first photo (put the copper one away before deciding to do the weight photos ) this is all the fittings and their bags, when I had picked up the new kit I found these items very light for what I have been used to, seems they are plastic with a coating on them to make them shiny, they are about half the weight of other kitsnow the last photos and over all the tubes, tried to make two pens with these, it was first going to be one but the first pen made from Zebra wood broke apart, the second one from padauk wood I was able to finish but there was trouble, the first pen the glue would not stick to the tube like at all, and this is the same ca glue I have used for all other pens, I scratched up the tube well with sand paper to give it a better hold but it still would not hold on to this tube, the second pen I used a thinner ca glue (one I have to do CA finishes on pens) to try and fix the problems of the first pen,everything seemed fine once the glue had cured, but when I went to do the barrel trimming found that the tube had warped a bit in places, could not notice with the eye but the barrel cleaning bit could not make it through had to use the lathe and a 4 jaw chuck to do the trimming, then had to use a press to get the blanks seated on the mandrel rightlast thoughts, if you need a pen kit fast you could do worse, but at $3.50 a kit I dont feel they are worth it, would rather have better fittings then the pen sleave they give, the two kits I compared this kit too were $2 a kit after shipping, buying 10 of them at a time, they dont come with the pen sleave but the fittings are nicer, bigger ink well, and have not had any of those troubles with the tubes
