I bought this box to keep my solar panel battery and inverter out of the weather. Day 1 I drilled a few holes in the box for wires and used weather tight bulkhead fittings around the wires. That was around 2 years ago and the box is still dry on the inside. It’s worked wonderfully.

super solid case, ended up being way overkill for our needs so we returned it to get a smaller one.

I have more Pelican products than I can easily count. I bought my first 1660 as a ship able foot locker for a desert journey in 2010. It’s still going strong after many many other excursions. It’s been shipped, flown, driven and even floated in various situations. It easily survived a 7,500 mile multi-week drive where it was outside in a cargo box the whole trip in the direct desert summer sun. I’ve already told my kids that they will get many great stories, my Pelican cases, and some fun tools to keep in them when I’m gone.

I think Pelican is over priced but it is still the best out there. Security is worth the bill.

This is perhaps the best case I have ever purchased for protecting my valuables being shipped internationally. I found the easy tear foam lining perfect for fitting each item. It was easy to stack equipment in two levels and had the need been different, it would have been easy to modify the foam to meet my needs. This is a great product.

What a case, WOW. I underestimated the size and it barely fits in my rear seat. But it fits. Definitely won't fit in my car's tiny trunk. Worth every penny, the foam is easy to work with and pluck to shape what you need to fill the case. The wheels glide smoothly and the handles are as robust as the rest of the case. The negative is the weight, and lack of long side handle. More on that in a bit. It is pretty heavy when it is empty and extremely heavy when full. I only complain because I have to lift it about 3 and a half feet off the ground at an angle to get it into my rear seats. Also Pelican needs to put a side handle along the "LONG" side of the case as it would greatly aid in lifting. I am currently thinking of tying a rope around it to help me lift it.

Pretty phenomenal case. With the tear away foam you have everything you need except a lock. The wheels are extremely small and don't handle transport over curbs/stairs/bumps like pneumatic wheels would, but they aren't intended to. This case is exceptionally well made. The fit and finish is very good and the the entire thing feels extremely solid. The collapsible handles lock into place and the extended handle is perfect for tipping the case on its side and wheeling it around.

I ordered this Pelican 1660 case to safely store and transport my Celestron Evolution 8 telescope. After reviewing all of the Celestron-branded soft cases and their own version of a large Pelican case (for considerably more money)...I decided Amazon was my best choice. I found this case's dimensions to be very similar to the awesome JMI case which is also custom-fitted for this very telescope....and costs $469. I ended up getting a very strong and tough case for half the price, but this comes at the cost of nearly DOUBLE the weight. There is one major downside to this case, but I will not deduct a star because I went into this purchase knowing very well that the Pelican case was heavy. I knew to expect it but was still surprised at how much weight this case constitutes by itself with the foam. I noted immediately it was tough and would protect my valuable gear inside without question: worth the extra weight. I'm a pretty strong guy, and I think I will be able to handle this case myself without any problems. If you have difficulty carrying or lifting objects heavier than 50lbs you'll need to have someone help you with the moving, loading and unloading of this case. I wish it could be a little lighter, but protection this trustworthy comes at a cost.I was able to shape the foam without an issue and also fit all of the telescope accessories for a dark site visit or night of viewing into the case. This makes keeping track of multiple cases and bags a lot more manageable....especially for amateur astronomers. I would HIGHLY recommend this case for anyone with a SCT telescope of 8" or less on a single-fork mount. I'm not sure a dual-fork would fit with enough padding on the sides.I uploaded a picture of my configuration with labels. I hope this helps others since I couldn't find any examples of this case customized for the Evolution 8. The built-in wheels and collapsible pull handle on the case are what really add value to this option over the rest. I would not hesitate to buy again. I have Pelican cases for many delicate instruments and multiple firearms. They have NEVER failed, broken or disappointed me in any way. The ability to utilize the case for possible travel by air in the future is also a very large plus, and you will not find anything out there that is more suitable for harsh conditions or weather.Buy with confidence from Amazon. Prime shipping got it to me in the 2 days specified.

I use this case to pack my demo computer equipment for tech shows around the world. I have it set up to carry a desktop, monitor, printer, microPC, keyboard, mouse, switch and other peripherals. Needless to say since its Pelican I don't worry about it. Its latest trip was from US to Taipei and back via FedEx. The case was scratched up as expected, but the contents were unharmed. The side handles are locked in the down position so they aren't broken. You've got to give them a tug to pull them out. The handle for use as a wheeled carrier slides neatly into the bottom of the case. So far I'm impressed with the build quality.
