ANATOMY OF A PELICAN CASE

Ultimate Equipment Protection

For over 30 years Pelican has built a reputation for manufacturing the toughest cases in the world. As a matter of fact, we invented the category. Over these years we've seen our cases used for some fairly crazy activities...and important ones too.

Pelican Cases have been thrown out of helicopters in Iraq, floated through frigid fjords in Norway and rolled over by SUVs in Tanzania. With only a few scratches to show on the outside, contents inside are left unscathed. These are minor details for major bragging rights. And that is really what it's all about. Getting your gear from point A to point B in the condition it's meant to be in: intact and functional. Because it might contain a large format camera that will shoot next month's magazine cover or a heart defibrillator that could save a person's life, you can't put a price on it.

Stronger by Design

Pelican Cases are made with a proprietary combination of homo co-polymers, using an open cell core and solid wall construction, which is stronger and lighter than a solid core wall. Stainless steel pins are used in hinges and handles.

Watertight

The secret is the tongue and groove fit with a polymer o-ring acting as a waterproof seal.

Cool Under Pressure

Automatic Pressure Equalization Valve releases built-up air pressure while keeping water molecules out, resulting in a watertight case that is even easier to open.

Easy Roller

Stainless steel ball bearing wheels last longer and ride smoother. The nylon hub adjacent to the stainless steel is made to resist heat. The result is less wear and tear on the polyurethane wheel.

Double-Throw Latches

Stainless steel hasp protectors are a Pelican exclusive. The Double-Throw latches are smarter and easier to open: it's the classic "C" clamp design with a secondary movement that works like a pry bar to start the release and offers plenty of leverage to open with a light pull.

Nameplate

Custom engraved nameplates are available for a nominal fee.

Reinforced Padlock Protectors

Stainless steel reinforced padlock protectors provide added strength and extra security against cutting and theft.

Obviously it's expensive, but it did exactly what it's designed for. It kept my son's delicate equipment safe and secure during his military deployment.

Ordered quantity 2. Received qty 2 used cases. Cases had been modified. There were pop rivets installed in top of case. Top foam insert was not standard insert (a custom insert was installed). Interior of case had adhesive residue from installation of something ( I assume custom foam) prior to our receipt. Not at all the usual experience with this purchase. I have made this purchase many times in the past with success. Let's see how the refund process proceeds.

These are good cases, but getting way too expensive. Especially considering Pelican no longer honors the lifetime warranty. We have over 40 of these 1620 cases. Years ago when latches or seals broke, etc. Pelican would just send new parts. Now, Pelican is a royal pain and does not want to do anything. We have several broken cases now and cant get Pelican to send new ones or provide the parts so we can repair them ourselves. If Pelican continues to charge a premium then they need to provide excellent customer service afterwards or risk losing longtime customers.

Fast delivery of a great product! I adapted this case and two others to perform as panniers on my 2022 BMW R1250GS. I used Caribou Case adapters to mount them to a set of Givi Monokey Racks. Everything workout beyond my best expectations. I added a case specific organizer to the lid of one of the boxes as well as some organizer nets and motion LED lights. Fantastic set up!

Great case at a great price - I am 6'3 so a handle that telescopes a bit more would be ideal but nothing to worry about.

I had to abandon my car near home due to the recent winter storm. I have all of my video gear packed in the Pelican 1620. It stayed in the trunk for one night at below freezing temperatures before I got back to it. It then it sat in the snow for about an hour before I started rolling it home. When I got home I wanted to check and see if the case really held up as advertised. Because of the temperature difference, I decided to leave it alone overnight before opening it. Needless to say the case worked beautifully! The camera, lenses, and countless other electronics were all in tact! I'm sure the I used was also a factor in this.I am very impressed with this case. I've stood on it to get higher shots, dragged it up and down stairs, and generally handle it in a carefree manner (It IS fairly heavy). It hasn't broken yet and it'll surely hold up for years to come. I will definitely be purchasing another for my audio gear, which, unfortunately, is still stranded in a plastic bin inside my car...

The case is constructed of high grade dense 1/4 inch plastic making it extremely difficult to break, crack, or puncture. The lid is securely clamped to the body of the case by four (yes FOUR) double throw latches. To ensure that the lid is properly latched to the case body, listen for the two loud licks of each latch. The lid hinges are solid and keep the lid pressure sealed to the body when closed allowing for maximum moisture protection; including anything from rain to a drop in a large and deep body of water. The case has a total of four handles; two on top, one on the front, and one on the bottom. One of the two handles on top extends and retracts from the body on a solid 6" 1/4" thick plastic rail that allows the user to easily roll the case on the two polyurethane wheels. The other handles on the top, side and bottom allow the case to be carried by more than one person comfortably and securely.I love pelican cases and I wouldn't trust anything else to protect my gear. I own a few other pelican cases and this one is the largest by far. I purchased this case be cause my 1510 was getting a bit crowded and I needed more space for my growing gear. This model came with the customizable interior foam but I also order the padded divider. All my gear fits in this case. Pelican gives me complete confidence that my gear would be safe in almost any environment in this case. I highly recommend pelican cases period.

This case is perfect! Very durable! With minimal research, you'll know that this case comes three ways (either with foam, without foam, or with dividers). This particular listing (as the title CLEARLY STATES) is for the Pelican 1620 WITH FOAM (not dividers). Giving a product a bad review after not reading the description is ridiculous. Also, this thing is BIG! You can fit a lot of stuff in it. And the pick-and-pluck foam makes it easy to customize it to your needs.I highly recommend this case... and reading.

Caution: THIS CASE DOES NOT COME WITH DIVIDERS.This was my 2nd Pelican case that I had ordered through Amazon. I purchased this case so I could fit all my camera gear into one case for when I go out on my wedding gigs. I needed a large enough case to fit 2 camera bodies, 2 SB-900 flashes, 5 lenses, and all the peripherals needed for an all day shoot. This case would have received a 5 star rating, but the product does not match the product image. When it arrived, I was excited to pop it open and start organizing all my gear into the case. Sadly, when I opened it, the case was filled with only slabs of foam. Very very frustrating. I called Amazon customer service to see if they could ship me dividers, but their policy is to send a replacement and send back the product. After further investigation, it appears that this isn't "supposed" to ship with the dividers. Unfortunately, I assumed that the product would ship as displayed like the product image. If you want to purchase this case and get the dividers separately, you'll have to drop another $150.If you do not need the dividers and prefer to cut the foam to fit your gear, then you can't beat this price. But for me I need the flexibility of having the Velcro dividers to fit the needs of each shoot that I take my gear to.
