Had a bad oil leak on my 2005 Malibu from the old oil filter adapter gasket. New gasket seemed to be of better quality then the original. Was slightly thicker and was a perfect fit. Solved the leak issue completely.

If you have a GM 3.5 v6 and you have a mystery oil leak above the oil filter area, take off the filter, and take off the actual oil filter adapter. The oil filter mount bolts onto the block and has the threads that the oil filter mounts to. This stupid little gasket splits, and then leaks. It is behind the oil filter mounting adapter and can not be seen until you take off the mount. You will most likely find that the center of the gasket has come apart at one of the triangle mounting points. This is what causes a pretty serious oil leak while the engine is running. I do not know if this fits other GM v6 engines, but I would suspect they have a similar set up. There are some youtube videos that can walk you through this repair. I thought it was the filter itself leaking, and after replacing the filter, I finally found where the leak was coming from. Good luck!

One of those items that sooner or later you will need.GM put a low quality product in their vehicles that was doomed to fail.Hint, do this job when you change the oil, since it needs to be drained anyway you may as well knock off two jobs at the same time. It's located behind the filter holder and against the block on the Pontiac G6, the serpentine belt will have to be loosened and a couple of bolts on the AC compressor will need to be loosened so you can move the compressor back to access one bolt. Not a bad job , but it does take a little time and a few wrenches to complete.
