I first started doing latch hook in my teens in the 70’s. I’m now 60 and loved every minute of doing this project. Was having some anxiety and panic attacks and used this project for therapy. It works and anyone at any age or skill level can do it. It’s calming .

Fun project! the yarn colors were a bit different but I liked result. I love having the backing so don't need to sew backing border!

I fell in love with this artist's work! And very glad I purchased. My completed project is a fall "wreath" for the front door.YARN: This kit is made from thin (4-ply?) very soft acrylic yarn, and it is super nice to have the colors bundled individually. I did keep a pair of scissors at hand to trim, a lot of, crumpled up long pieces. I've found with kits, you want to ensure you have enough yarn to finish before tossing anything. And as so often happened, the white color was missing for the fox's scruff, tail, and jaw line. Luckily for me I had enough left over of a perfect cream color 6-ply yarn from a finished kit. There were plenty of the other supplied colors to finish, with one each of unused black and tan and two unused yellow, for the moon, bundles. My kit was stuffed to the brim with yarn and it’s too bad the design team didn’t switch out a couple of the extra bundles for the white. (But I love the cream and glad it’s not white.)LATCH HOOK: The supplied latch hook is perfect for this light weight yard, and the hook is feather-weight - no stress from holding this one ;-) As an aside, I have been very surprised at the durability of this "cheap" hook. I'm working on my third project with it. I did have to switch to my standard latch hook when using the 6-ply yarn.DESIGN: This does have the pattern printed on the canvas, but I followed the counted latch hook picture as there are a lot of color changes and I wanted to ensure my fox and leaves looked like the original. Recommended for an experienced crafter.BACKING: The backing is attached with a grosgrain ribbon and basted on. It is delicate and can separate from the canvas. This project had no issues, but my current project did separate. I like having the backing once the project is finished, but when working, I miss not being able to see the back side for a quick look to ensure the yarn is in the correct location. The backing has the nobs for non-slip, but there was no "sticky" grip - a non-issue for hanging, but would slip if used on the floor.Enjoy! It’s a beautiful project.

I haven't done latch hook since I was a kid in the 70s, so, after comparing lots of different kits, I settled on this one because it's relatively inexpensive and I like the fox harvest moon design. There are a lot of kits with juvenile designs like teddy bears or footballs, and some have a sort of grandma's floral sofa look to them, but the high end artistic designs tend to be pricey. I wasn't sure if I'd still be into latch hook after all these years, so I didn't want to commit to a large, expensive kit.The kit arrived nicely packaged in its own plastic carrying case. The yarn bundles were clearly labeled, and they seem to be all there (I checked for the cream color for the fox's ruff that others reported missing, and it was included). The instructions are printed on a single sheet, with a photo of the finished design on one side and the grid showing the colors to use on the other. The canvas did have a weird smell when I first unfolded it, kind of like fresh ink, but it quickly dissipated. The design is printed on the canvas, but because it's a large square grid, you still need to refer to the printed chart. This is pretty standard for latch hook kits. It's not possible to print the design in good enough detail on the loose canvas grid. The canvas is more of a guideline, but I had no problem following the printed grid, because I'm used to doing cross stich on blank canvas. The canvas has a backing and binding, unlike the 70s kits that you had to bind yourself. The backing is only seamed at the edges so you can still push the hook through the canvas. I thought about removing the backing, as that might make the hooking a little faster, but I got used to the backing and I think I'll leave it on.Despite my years of craft experience, I do think this kit is suitable for beginners. The diagram that shows how to actually hook a single piece of yarn isn't that great, it's a little hard to make out, but I found an online tutorial and then my fingers remembered how I used to do it. It's dead easy and within minutes, I got really fast at it.The question of whether I still enjoy latch hooking as an adult was quickly resolved because, once I remembered how to do it, I couldn't stop! I found myself hooking an entire corner of the rug. It was immensely satisfying to watch a tree branch with autumn leaves and part of a full moon take shape. It's exactly the kind of repetitive, soothing activity I like to do while watching TV, and it's less complicated that my usual embroidery or cross-stitch projects. It's a bit closer to yarn work like crochet or knitting. I find it strangely addicting and before I knew it, I had hooked an entire bundle of yarn and one whole corner of the rug is finished. So this is my first latch hook kit as an adult, but I have a feeling it won't be my last!
