I have gone through many waterers over the years. My dilemma comes in the form of the typical:- chickens are messy and will mess the water- I live in Wisconsin and the temperatures in winter make for complicated watering at timesI still keep a semi-flexible feed pan on hand in case the power goes out so I can go back to daily waterings, but this waterer actually keeps the water clean, the water does NOT freeze in the output (so long as you have a de-icer made for the appropriate size stock tank - going too powerful on a de-icer for something like a horse sized water trough can be hazardous for us in the smaller waterers like these)When I first set this up, I took time to tap at the outputs so the girls could mimic and see they needed to peck there to get water - they figured it out very quickly; it is just like teaching baby chicks where to get their food and water if your birds are unfamiliar with this type of waterer. The lowest we have hit so far in temperatures with this waterer was -27F and the girls still had water available to them. We have been using a K&H brand de-icer for chicken waterers specifically and it has been working well for us.This waterer is so easy to refill; with emphasis to sand not being an issue in taking off the lid like we have had with some other waterers over the years.

We went through multiple watering systems for our chickens trying to find one that didn’t leak. We got the buckets for around the property but this for inside the coop. Everything else leaked. I was almost afraid to buy it because of the price but honestly, I’d buy it again if I needed to. Easy to use, no set up process at all. Great quality!! 10/10 on functionality. Love the durable design. Just pick it up and move it when needed to clean the coop.

Just purchased in May 2023 and one of the nipples leaks. I contacted Amazon and they quickly put me in touch with Rachel at Overez. Rachel is sending out their newly updated nipples. Great waterer and amazing customer service with Amazon and Overez. Well worth the little extra as it's easy to fill, keep clean and add freeze prevention this winter. Thank you!

I bought my first one from TSC and it worked great until one of my chickens pulled at the metal nipple and sprung it. Lol. But you can physically inspect it in the store to make sure everything is good with it.But since "chick season" is over, TSC doesn't carry these right now. So when my spring sprung on the middle nipple, nobody had replacement nipples or the waterer! So I bought a brand new waterer on Amazon while getting a quick fix at Ace to plug the hole where I removed the leaky nipple, just to not waste all 12 gallons in my existing waterer until my new one came. Ugh! CHORE!It got here today, November 10, 2023, and yet...lo and behold! The middle, stupid, nipple was dripping like crazy! And the chickens hadn't even gotten to it yet! So now I had to figure that out!!! Beware buying from Amazon on tricky things like this! I can't even buy the nipples at TSC right now, at this time of year, because nobody bothers keeping chicken things in stock until Spring comes and chick season begins except feed and normal stuff!UPDATE:Since that day, all three of the nipples on the one I ordered are defective and I had to replace them. Today is November 17th. I don't expect any responses from the company. They don't seem to care what people have been saying about this same issue that others have experienced. I have yet to see a complaint answered by them. So, just to reiterate...Don't buy online. Find them in a store so, at lease, you can physically inspect it before spending your money on one. It is a good idea, but if the company isn't going to back up its product, they aren't worth patronizing.

Just fill it with water. And let the chickens drink water. There’s also no debris in the water.

I have really been looking for another alternative for watering my backyard chickens. Their existing method was constantly getting filled with with debris as well as the containers would easily get filled with muck (algea, mold?). I also wanted something where if I had to have help with the birds bc of being out of town it would take some pressure off of my helper. I saw this and saw it had mixed reviews and also saw it’s pretty expensive. I tried it anyway. For starters, once filled it’s very heavy. So make sure it’s where you want it before you get started. Secondly, it took me about a week, but I realized (or think) it was too low for the birds so I put it up on two bricks to make the nipples more aligned with their heads. (Could prob still be a little higher). Thirdly, training them on this has NOT been easy. I have 9 birds of different ages and sizes and the large birds are not tame or easy to pick up. They (none of them) would not pay attention to the waterer at all. Once they would go to their coop at night...I would have to go pick each bird up one by one and take them to the waterer and hold their head and beaks up to the nipple over and over to show them. Needless to say....they were NOT happy with this scenario and I made them angry. Not to mention it was time consuming and a little stressful for me bc I knew it was going to be a fight for me and 9 birds. These past couple of days I took all other water options away from them. They were very thirsty it was obvious to me. It made me feel badly. They still would not drink. Finally, in the past day or two they were around the area of the waterer and I started pushing the nipples with my fingers letting the water stream out. The chickens were going crazy and running to it. I did this for a very long time trying to show them to drink the water from the nipple vs off the ground (which is what they were doing ). Finally a few tried to get water from the nipples but it didn’t come out easily. They have to hit it with their beaks just right. We are on day two....and it seems to be somewhat better. Once again, this am I let the water flow with my finger which brought the birds running. They seem to be picking it up but it seems as if it is taking them quite a while be become satisfied. As if they aren’t getting enough water. I am hopeful this is going to get better every day and they become more versed at getting the water out efficiently. So, if you have a lot of patience and time this could end up being great. The size is great. The ease of cleaning when necessary is great. Just be ware that you will have to actually train the birds to use this which was very hands on for me. But once they are all fully trained and comfortable I believe this will be great overall.Amendment: I just wrote this review today....but decided to look inside to see “how much was gone to try and gage their drinking”. I’ve only had this a week....and I PUT the vinegar inside.....look at all the mold....and this is supposed to last a month???? What’s going on here!P.S.S! I’ve had this for many months now. I moved the location from out of the direct sun which seems to have helped worn the “mold” inside. I have it tucked up in the bushes more (however, the sun will still hit it finding the day) but I haven’t noticed the mold....the birds all know how to use which is great. However, I still supplement with standard water stations bc I just cannot help myself. They def seems to get “more water” and drink “longer” from standard water stations. But I do see them drink from this as well which is good to know if anything should happen or the other water stations turn over etc. My birds would prob be fine if I took the other stations away....but I just like knowing they have what they need in ample abundance. I would buy this product...especially if you have a lot of birds. I do think you would find some value in it. I just got a new baby added to the group and she learned on her own. Perhaps from watching the others-which was great that I didn’t have to do it! Star assessment updated since mold issue resolved.

Nipples are too difficult for newborn chick to operate, but no problem by the time they’re 4 weeks old. Perfect for my older birds. No spills, no mess.

I am pleased with the size of this waterer. Upon receipt, one of the side seams was split open, so when I filled it, it promptly drained out into the chicken yard. I used bathroom silicone on both the inside and outside to properly seal the seam and now it works fine. I hope that the silicone will hold up to our Canadian winters. I think the material is not quite thick enough at the seams, which allowed it to just split. The other odd thing is that the bottom of the unit is lower than the water nozzles, so it can't really drain. I will have to pour out the water regularly to ensure it doesn't get stale. The nozzles should really be at a low point in the unit so that the water can completely empty. Just a design flaw I suppose. Overall pleased with the unit - chickens adapted to it very quickly.

Well designed. Chickens can not spoil the water. Can buy a heater to keep from freezing in colder climates. We live in Ontario, Canada. Works well
