I bought this backpack about 5 months ago and wanted to use it a few times before writing a review. I love this thing! It compacts so small. It’s perfect for travel when you need a nice quality day pack. I also used it for a 20 mile hike/race. It was super light, comfortable, breathable, carried all my rain gear, snacks, waterbottle, wallet, hat. Walking sticks were a little hard to carry in there.. it wasn’t tall enough for some foldable walking sticks. The material and zippers are quality and seem to still be holding up to the abuse I put it through. I definitely would gift this to someone that likes to travel or go on spontaneous adventures!

This roomy, lightweight backpack packs flat in its own cover. I take it with me on day trips or for extra space when traveling. I have had my first one for 5 years with little wear and tear and it’s waterproofing is a bonus. The price does not reflect the quality as it matches backpacks that are much more expensive.

I liked this pack so much, this is the second one I have purchased. The first one was years ago and I put it through heck. It folds up into a very small pouch that can be clipped onto a belt or bag. I take it with me when I use carry on luggage only and add this when I have more to bring back than what I started with. It is super light. It has pockets in exactly the places where I need them to be.I put my purse and computer in this pack, along with other work related things and then that is my one personal item and I still have my actual carry on. This pack fits under the seat on the plane. The other thing I do with this bag is wash it when I get home (because it has usually been sitting on the floor of a plane, or bus, or train.. or other less than pristine places.) This pack washes really well and dries quickly.I am happy to be able to get a blue one this time!

I took this backpack on safari in Africa. My primary backpack is large and bulky so I got this lightweight pack to carry the things I would need daily - full size camera, binoculars, bird book, and neccessities like sunscreen and water. My sister had purchased the 20L previously and recommended the 33L. It was perfect. Strong and comfy to carry. The zippers saw a lot of action over 22 days of accessing everything I needed each day. It held up to the road dust too. The water bottle holding straps meant I wasn't struggling to keep different size bottles from trying to escape. The carrying pouch, when turned inside out, becomes an internal zipper pocket for keeping money and small items. I'm off to Europe next and this backpack will be my go-to every day.

Se compacta mucho y es ultra ligera. Ideal para llevar cambios de ropa y artículos que no pesen tanto… para prolongar su tiempo de vida. Relación calidad y precios muy buena!

I love the backpack for my purposes. It is lightweight, and folds into a tiny pocket. It appeared that one of the nylon zippers had separated, but I was able to get it back together. As it is an outside pocket, I am not concerned about it, and I think it will stay together. I love the backpack, and can't wait to travel.

I have owned many backpacks, each purchased with a specific purpose in mind. I am 5' 7" and weigh 200 lbs. I bought the Outlander Travel Backpack (large) to take with me when traveling to use when exploring cities and local environments. Since my purchase I have used for my six - eight mile daily walking. I have loaded it with my one liter Platypus water bottle, light jacket, Kindle Fire, Blu Life One XL Cell Phone, pen & spiral notebook, binoculars, and more.I haven't weighed the pack loaded down but I can say the shoulder straps are wide enough to make the pack comfortable even loaded as I've described. The 3 different sized compartments are perfectly sized for different things, the largest for the water bottle and jacket, the middle for my7" Kindle Fire, Spiral Notebook & Pen, and the smallest for my cell phone and epipen. I haven't yet used the pouch but think it will be perfect for my Nikon s9600 travel camera. The stitching, pack material and zippers all are more than I expected from such a low cost pack. I am used to buying from REI and currently have 3 other packs purchased from them. The Outlander is of equal quality in stitching and functionality. The pack is easy to stuff into the built in pouch and when zipped up the pouch is very small about 5" wide 3.5 inches high and about 1.75 inches deep. This translates to an easy, lightweight fit in my larger REI Flash 45 pack I will be using in August when I take on the Camino Portuguese. The pack doesn't have any internal frame which means that knowing how to pack your items carefully is important. I've seen other frameless packs that cost upwards of $100.00 that are of the same general size that aren't any better that the Outlander. If loaded improperly the pack will hug your back making back sweat a reality, loaded properly there is a gap between the pack and your back that allows for some ventilation minimizing sweaty back syndrome. I don't think I would put more than 10lbs or so in the pack.In conclusion, this is a great pack for travelers who need something small, lightweight, to use when arriving at a destination for exploring, or for someone needing a lightweight carry-on when traveling, or if you are like me just a great little pack for light weight day trips.

2024 Review(my original 2014 review is below)Over time I have bought 4 of these , the first in 2014 , for their clever design and lightness: one for the wife, one for a go-bag, one for the car. The latest one I bought in July 2024 for a 3 month trip to Italy (to look fresh) and the new one suffered problems that the earlier versions never had:○ zipper sticking out from pouch○ ripping material around zipper (see picture, from about 6 weeks into the trip)○ peeling of plastic inner layer (sort of like you see old GoreTex do after a few years)I now use the Yelp rating system and only rate the product (not the packaging, delivery or price etc) : 1 star = Methinks not 2 = I've experienced better 3 = A-OK 4 = I'm a fan 5 stars = As good as it getsThe design behind this product remains excellent, slightly improved even, but the material / construction problems drop the score down to a 3. That is still a respectable score , and I will probably purchase this again , but it no longer is the 5 it once was. So this fan allows it a 4.2014 ReviewMy uses: travel bag (great), backpacking wander pack (good), bicycle bag (not for me).4.5 stars. Well made, nice features. Here is how I am using mine: it easily slips in and out of my travel luggage and contains the things I need when I in my seat on the plane. It has just enough pockets and compartments. Also, it is a good light bag to stuff into your backpack for day hikes from your base camp. I suppose it could be used as a minimalist summit sack if the conditions are not extreme. I have used it for general bus commuting. I haven't used it for bicycle commuting though because panniers are better for grocery loads in the wet Pacific Northwest. I wish the outside compartment zipped straight across instead of an angle. The angle looks stylish but my Surface doesn't quite fit in it because of the angle so I have to use the bigger inner compartment instead which is okay with me also. I have been recommending this bag to my regular friends and those into ultralight.
