appears to be solid material that won't rot like wooden rockers however....The directions are not very detailed. There are subtle differences that could easily be noted/pointed out in the assemble instructions. It definitely takes two people to assemble, especially the back rest portion. They provide a "text" number in the instructions if you need help. I text the number (keep in mind parts spread out on the floor) I needed help then. After no reply for 20 minutes I called and left a voicemail...I received a text back at 9am the following morning asking what specific challenges I was having. I eventually was able to solve the issue myself but the bad taste of bad customer service will not go away. This company hides behind a text number instead of that person answering a call when needed. I do not recommend this product!
