Usage Instructions: 1) Remove cap from brake fluid reservoir; 2) Remove probe cap from brake fluid tester; 3) Press power button on top of tester. Green LED lights up; 4) Dip entire length of metal probes into brake fluid; 5) After one second, match color of LEDs with color chart to determine brake fluid quality. Happy with the device. I was able to validate accuracy by adding little by little water into cup with new brake fluid

Works well and save some money and time to find out the brake fluid is still in good condition even after three year service. The con is you need one for Dot 3 and one for Dot 4 if you have Japanese and European cars both.

Works like a charm. Used it on my new vehicle and got no bad readings, as it should. Used it on another vehicle a couple of years old and got a slightly negative reading, as expected.

Worked great the first time I use it. When you press and release the power button the tester will go through a self test and the green light will stay on and the tester is ready to test for moisture. This past weekend I tried to use it again and when I press the power button for the self test and the green light, the lights will turn off the second the power button is released. The fix was to remove and re-install the battery each time you want to test the brake fluid for moisture. I don't want to use this tester this way, this battery exercise will eventually ruin the tester. My next trick is to check if OTC will support this product.

How do you tell if its time to replace your brake fluid? Well you can go by mileage and replace it just because you've hit a mileage mark or you can actually use this tool to test the moisture content of your brake fluid and save yourself some money by not replacing it until it is really necessary. To me its just like changing your synthetic multi weight oil every 3 thousand miles just because your mechanic tells you you should even though the owners manual says every 5000 miles. I have two cars that use the same type of brake fluid when I got this is checked them both one is close the other is in good shape. Well anyway I like it and its is about $300 cheaper than having a mechanic drain and refill the brake lines. Of course this is my opinion.

This pen is either defective or wildly inaccurate. It shows my brake fluid was 0% moisture but the phoenix brakestrip shows 200PPM of copper corrosion which is enough moisture to warrant fluid change. I also tested against a control, a brand new bottle of prestone dot3 fluid and the pen shows 4% moisture. When i used another strip of the phoenix brakestrip, it shows 0 PPM of copper corrosion.

Not sure it works. Tested it on two different vehicles with DOT 3 fluid. I knew the first vehicle's brake fluid would have little to no moisture at all since it's fairly new fluid so it tested green (0%). However, the second vehicle's fluid is much older and dirtier looking. Still tested 0% so I have my doubts whether this tester actually works. I have followed directions for both uses.
