I originally had a cheaper off brand compression tester from my local parts store, it failed rather quickly when the check valve broke rendering it unusable. This led me to purchase this higher quality compression tester, right away the difference was noticeable with the nice case it comes in, much higher quality hose and gauge and adapters. It has worked flawlessly since purchasing and I’m sure it will work flawlessly for years to come.

I ordered this kit. Went to do my compression test and found I needed another adapter. I ordered it and the kit worked great. Not the kits fault, mine for not reading. I ordered Lisle 20380, hooked it up and worked like a charm.

This has been a great kit, I've had it eight years now and it still performs. Accurate and durable, I purchased this compression set 8 yrs ago for quite a deal then, it's held up great!

About as reliable as the rest of the cheap Compression testers out there, at 4 times the price. OTC is usually a good brand, but from, my experience this time it seems to be just another cheap pile of rubbish.Came in a nice plastic box, took it out - made sure to keep all threads and connectors clean and connected it to a known good engine. Fuel off, throttle open and cranked - good compression.Took it to a known bad engine, same process and it registered lower - fine.Took it back to known good engine and tested one final time - the little plastic top on the pressure release valve flew off and suddenly no compression being registered. Never worked again after that.I'm going returning this pile of rubbish and going to my local parts store to get a local brand.EDIT: Don't I feel stupid....looks like it needed a little bit of oil added to the cylinder to get compression actually staying in the schraeder valve. All working after a little modding.

No two gauges ever read the same. But repeatability is key factor for any mechanic/engine builder.A cheap chinese gauge may do for most but OTC is top of the line and I always wanted one and now that I have it, I can see why.For one it has consistently held pressure in every engine I have tested. I have even used it to test slow pressure losses. And every reading I have ever taken has been solidly consistent for that given cylinder. It also has adapters for every spark plug size I have ever played with.

I purchased this compression tester to evaluate my 2004 Nissan Altima. I had been looking at OTC, Innova or Mityvac as my most preferred options. I was looking for a set with numerous attachments to accommodate automobiles, motorcycles and other small engines. I was also looking for a set with a hard case to hold all those attachments. Images of the kit are shown below. A nice feature are the instructions on the inside of the top cover. If you don't perform these kinds of tests daily, you may forget the procedure and these instructions save you time from having to look for information elsewhere. To be honest, I had a concern about the dial's blue face and not being able to read it as easily as a white face. My concern wasn't warranted, as the unit has great contrast and a large face to make reading the results easy. Two units are displayed on the gauge, psi or KPa. Actual compression results were consistent when repeated on a cylinder. That's not to says the results are 100% accurate, but if nothing else they're consistent. All in all, I highly recommend this set. I obviously can't vouch for long term performance, but the gauge, hoses and connectors seem robust. I don't expect issues other than normal wear over time.

This is a complete compression test kit that will work on 95% of vehicles you need to test. The hoses and fittings seem to be of good quality, however you can tell they aren't quite as high quality as some of the more expensive compression test kits. The rubber feels a bit more stiff than my snap on kit and may start dry cracking in the future. The rubber boot on the gauge will begin to dry crack within a couple of years as my other OTC gauges have. The gauge itself is accurate and reads the same as my snap on gauge. This is definitely a good tool for the DIY'er or professional technician, but may not stand up to regular long term use without the need to replace individual pieces.

This is a great compression tester kit. It has everything you could possibly need, including fittings for every size plug I would ever expect to encounter. The long line from the fitting to the gauge allowed me to put the gauge right up to the windshield so I could sit in the car and crank the engine and watch the gauge from inside. This is a heavy duty, professional grade tool.I bought this because I could not find my old tester after I moved. Of course, I found the old one after I got this, but I'm still glad I odered this because my old one looks and feels like a cheap low end junk compared to this.BTW, the case is a great addition. Everything snaps in snugly and stays in one place, so the fittings don't get lost in tool drawer.

Overall, this kit is an excellent value. Professional grade quality. Hoses to plug hole are long, makes it easier getting to hard spots. High quality neoprene hoses, air coupler fittings/shrader valves. And, the hose swages are chromed! Pressure gage: gage is encased in a thick protective rubber cover. Good protection from bumps. Pressure relief valve on gage is sturdy and works great. Gage hose is long, allowing enough slack to move around while doing compression checks on engine. The plastic storage box is well constructed and has a spot for everything: two spark plug hoses (1-14mm reg reach tip, 1-14mm long reach tip); one pressure gage/hose; three spark plug hole adapter fittings (18mm, 12mm, 10mm). A really great kit. After examining/using this kit, I really REGRET purchasing all those "cheap" compression testers in the past. They didn't last after a few accidental bumps/drops, had short hoses, gages frosted over, etc. This is a NO REGRETS purchase. Simply put, this might be the LAST compression tester you will ever buy, for the DIY person or for the professional! Strongly recommend this tester.
