Have an olderish sound bar that used optical. To my surprise my new Samsung TV did not have optical but instead HDMI eARC. Was skeptical this would work but plugged it in and my sound bar was detected instantly.Remember to turn it on though there is a power switch.

I was hesitant to buy this at first based on reviews, but after reading several, I realized that everyone getting it for the same reason I needed it gave great reviews. I had a new smart TV with no optical cable out for connection to my old Pioneer Surround Sound receiver. This was exactly what I needed. Great sound and performs as expected.

This little digital optical to hdmi was just perfect for hooking up a friend’s hearing aid box to his new TV on the eArc hdmi port. I love it when something works. I’ll update if there are issues with quality or lifespan.

Finally found it, my AV amp is an old Denon unit which sounds great but is from an era before hdmi let alone earc. So this little converter is a god send.So if you want to connect an eARC hdmi outlet from a tv to a digital amp which is pre hdmi to send digital 5.1 sound from the tv to your av receiver, then this is for you.

I bought a newer Samsung TV to replace an older one that died in my living room. The new TV has an eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) HDMI output that connects to a compatible sound bar or audio system. Unfortunately my older Visio sound bar has no ARC HDMI input but it does have a Toslink/SPDIF optical input. This OREI DA41 adapter was just the ticket to connect the eARC to the Toslink. The TV recognized the adapter as soon as it was powered on (don't forget to slide the switch on the adapter to the 'on' position!) and it works as intended. As mentioned in the DA41 product description, with this kind of setup the TV volume controls don't inherently adjust the level of the audio going out on the eARC interface, but it was easy to set up my system to have the main remote we use control the volume on the soundbar instead.

It converts to Dolby 5.1 surround sound signal with no distortion.I read a review describing a shut down problem and this does Not happen with mine.Tip: When connecting to a new Samsung 2024 TV I realized the TV audio setting default is 2-channel stereo. So change it to Dolby 5.1

This piece is designed to do a specific thing and it does it. Materials are a little cheap, so connectivity into the device is barely stable, but it works exactly as advertised. Simple and effective.

My sound bar did not get hdmi plug. Using this converter it can get hdmi attach with tv eArc hdmi plug then convert to optical attach to my sound bar. After that quality both on audio and picture is upgrade a lot. Now I can enjoy a wonderful home theatre system.

Update, I love the product and it works exactly as expected but after about 3 months it stopped working. For a while the light wouldn’t turn on but now it powers up and if you switch to its hdmi input you see the blue screen but it is no longer detected as being plugged in by the TV via hdmi and not detected by the receiver via the optical cable.I might buy another and then try to attach a heat sink to the IC chip inside as my guess is that without a heat sink or fan it overheats after being left on most of the time getting power from the tv.— Original review belowSo far it works exactly as expected, roku tv hdmi eArc out, eArc hdmi in, tsolink out, tsolink optical in on an older receiver that supports Dolby 5.1 but doesn’t have hdmi.I had to play with the audio output options on the tv to get it working, for me Dolby digital and dts were fine but Dolby digital+ it didn’t like.I do notice if there hasn’t been audio for a bit or if it is switching between playing something with one encoding to something with a different encoding the audio can briefly drop out but it comes back quick and then continues to work without interruption while watching a movie, in our case WALL·E with the robots dancing on space to test out the surround sound working as expected streamed from Disney+.This is far cheaper than purchasing an updated receiver which will inevitably be unable to handle whatever newer features come out. If the keep making devices like this that support newer and newer standards as the come out I would see continuing to buy newer versions of these as a really good strategy.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a new TV that does not do sound passthrough for toslink to my 20 year old receiver which still sounds awesome but predates hdmi. this will make the TV think its attached to an arc receiver and send sound down the arc hdmi then it retransmits surround sound to my receiver. works exceptionally well, previously I was using a splitter which takes video and sound from the source and passes video to the TV input and sound to receiver through toslink, sadly it degraded the video quite a bit and to change source I had to swap hdmi cables. thankfully I found this and both sound and video are greatly improved. I'll still need to replace the receiver at some point but I'm hoping to get an additional year or two and this product will let me do that. thank you!

The unit did not work. It was receiving power and I could see that there was signal going into the toslink cable that I was connecting... I was not able to get any audio out of the unit however. I tried connecting four different devices with an optical out (Xbox 360, Xbox One, Panasonic TV TCP-55ST60, and Windows PC with Asus motherboard P8P67-M Pro), and I have tried using various RCA and 3.5mm cables to connect to my sound system. I also tried using a variety of different headphones, all of which gave me no sound.Amazon sent me a replacement unit, which arrived very quickly. This second unit however did not work eitherAfter reaching out to the manufacturer twice they did respond saying that there was an issue they were aware of where this unit would not wok with some Panasonic TV's (this doesn't explain it not working with the other devices however). They offered to send me the DA34 (here is a link to it ) in place of this unit.I am happy to say that the DA34 does work. My rating of the DA34X will not change as it simply did not work. I will give the DA34 a 5 star review though as it works exactly as advertised, and it also had the option to power the unit via USB, which I quite liked.
