Did not contain the engine. I didn't notice until my son opened it for Valentine's day. My only option for a replacement was to return the set. My son was super excited so I couldn't take the rolling stock pieces from him. He is Autistic & wouldn't understand. I simply wanted an engine sent to me but wasn't given that option, forcing me to purchase another set.

Very cute little train set. Works well with the wooden train set we got my son for Christmas. The kids had fun painting them!Will probably purchase more once we get more tracks.

For all of us grandparents who would like to play with train-crazy grandchildren without batteries and preprogrammed frameworks, this little set of Brio-compatible cars is great. My 3.5 yr old grandson loved being able to choose and paint the base colors almost as much as he loved telling me what detailing he wanted me to add.

Actually got this for the young people in my life, to give them something fun to do on a long train ride. The wooden trains are nice looking, well made, and they're magnets, so you can buy more and put them together. And you can make them your own. An artsy souvenir, great activity!

My three year old and I had a blast painting these together today! What a cute idea this is, LOVE IT!First set we ordered had a defect where one of the cars had no magnets at all on it. No problem, they were exchanged for another set. Second time round was fine. Guess that happens sometimes?The train cars are slightly larger than the average trains of this sort too, and we noticed that some of them wouldn't go through some of the bridge pieces that were on the smaller side.Still fun though!Since my child painted it, this one is the favorite of the collection. We used acrylic paints, stickers, and a gold leaf felt pen. Also, made sure to put painter's tape over the bottom of the cars first so they would still work after being painted. (Covered up the gaps lacking paint with a gold pen.)Really good sturdy set!

Very cute for a Christmas gift. The only problem is one side of the box has melted wax all over it and I can't get it off maybe it was resting on something before they shipped it

I purchased this train to be painted. I have used acrylic paints on wood before so I expected the same as my previous experience, though I was a little disappointed. The wood wasn't sanded fine enough for me, for painting purposes. I found the front train was very sloppily cut and put together. There were sharp wood pieces sticking out that I had to paint around. I made it work, but I cannot say I was impressed with the quality. I have purchased other brands of wooden train set accessories, and I thought these would have been the same quality based on the reviews.On a happy note, the magnets seemed to work great. I tested those out before I started to paint. In the end it will serve the purpose. But I can't say the quality made me thrilled, so besides paining unpainted trains, I will stay away from this brand in the future. In the end I think my toddler will be happy, the train is still very cute. (I will update review after Christmas 2018).

I was really excited to purchase this for my son. He is in love with trains and everything trains. My initial plans are to draw some of his favorite characters and paint it. So after my inspections I am happy that these Trains are compatible (with Thomas & Brio trains) and I will be able to customize them for my son. He will be one happy camper on Christmas Morning.*Overall I am happy with my purchase decision, these trains are good quality and inexpensive*

These are beautifully made of very good wood. I have sorted several sets, and every one has been excellent.The excellent construction of the cars and the very good wood means it works great to decorate them in so many different ways!'You do not need to paint them, and I bought more sets when I realized that! They would be GREAT for parties and other situations where people have maybe 30 to 45 minutes to decorate one and take it home. Great party favor that for one car, costs the host $2.50 per person, plus whatever accessories they provide for decorating.I'm allergic to the whole wide world! One thing I've found that I love to do to decorate a train car is find some decorative red wooden hearts or letters or any number of other things. There are very strong-stick foam dots that will raise that wooden image up a bit and make it stick great!I am seeing why trains are so popular! I don't want train tracks, but these cars, like some others I have bought already painted, and attach to each other magnetically whenever you get them into the right position. So I can put 2,3, 4, or even more together and pose them in various places. Great fun!

This train set is a great way to get affordable trains that your child can get creative with. I bought two sets. One I used as a cake topper for by daughter's train theme birthday cake. My artistic mother-in-law painted the train cars with a colorful and personalized design and it looked adorable on her cake. The other set I gave to my daughter and let her draw on it with standard markers. Even though we don't have any tracks yet, she loves to play with the train cars, and when she gets older and we do get wooden tracks this will be a great personalized addition to the set.
