Opinel smacks of quality. This is a beautiful example of what a tool can be. I carry it in my gentleman satchel. Light and purposeful, it does what it was meant to do. I need to gift more of these.

I found a physical blemish with the first order, but the 2nd replacement order was flawless, and I'm very happy with it. It feels solid and has a solid lock mechanism. It locks both at the closed and open position for safety. It's just a right size to carry for camping, hiking or for any quick tasks. The Folding Carbon Steel Saw is very sharp, cuts through quickly and it's very effective. I highly recommend it.

This little folding saw fits easily in my bank fishing bag and has worked great cutting limbs and small trees in my way. As stated in other reviews, it cuts on the pull stroke so, you need to let up pressure on the forward stroke to prevent binding the blade.I did find the blade seats a little low in the handle when folded making it a little tough to get a grip and open up. I used a rasp to knock off some wood and applied a stain over the entire wood.Very glad I picked this up.

Although this saw is a bit pricey, it is very well made and super portable. Many folding saws have rather bulky locking mechanisms and features that limit how small they will fold. I bought this primarily with camping/backpacking in mind where both space and weight are concerns. It weighs 4oz.Supposedly this (No.12) will cut up to 3" diameter wood. I don't doubt that's possible but i really think it's more appropriate for 2" and less. They also make a No.18 which is bigger/heavier but with a longer blade if you need greater capacity. The saw's simple revolving metal ring which acts as a lock (for both open and closed locking) works very well. It's a great little saw!!

Pros: Small with real wood handle that feels nice in the hand. Very sharp and will make quick work out of branches and even small logs. Its size means it can fit in a small pack or even a large pocket with little trouble. This item is great when hiking the trails and encountering a down tree or branch. I have used it many times to clear down branches or the branches on logs crossing the trail so my fellow hikers can just step over. Cons: The blade is by nature short, so you will have to work at thicker targets and the blade is on the thin side. Be careful not to pinch the blade when clearing a larger branch as it can snap. I definitely recommend this to hunters clearing shooting lanes, hikers, backpackers and even just folks needing a saw for the yard. Who could not use one of these?

My requirements are that this saw be light and that it fits inside the calf pocket of tactical response BDU pants AND that it will fit in a Maxpedition (type) pocket organizer, as well ... and, of course, that it be durable and cut (both) green and dry woods, very well. Lower price would be very welcome, BTW!So ... This saw or the Gerber Sportsman's Wood Saw (Coarse) are the ONLY TWO CONTENDERS.I would strongly recommend the BAHCO LAPLANDER FOLDING SAW, for those who have a bit more flex on their size and weight requirements ... I DO carry a Laplander in my Waist-Pack (search: "Jumbo Modular Deployment Bag").But, if you MUST have a saw that will easily fit in a BDU pocket or in a smaller kit or organizer ... yep ... get this fine saw or the Gerber Sportsman's Wood Saw (Coarse) ... This Opinel is most elegant and will appeal to bushcrafters ... a work of art. (BUT VERY PRICEY !)* * * * Four Stars ! ... Could be less expensive.
