I compared these Swiffen Oil Absorbent Pads to my favorite brand: New Pig Mat 240 Absorbent Pads. Both are made of polypropylene sheets with dividing lines and pressure points. Also, both are advertised as pads that can absorb water or oil but that’s where the similarities end. Swiffen pads are considerably thinner. I conducted an absorbency comparison test by pouring 1/2 teaspoon of water and oil on each pad. The Pig Mat absorbed both fluids much faster and held the liquid within the pad however the fluid penetrated the Swiffen Pad through to the surface below. Two layers of Swiffen completely blocked the fluid when only one layer of Pig Mat was needed.Pig Mats are sold in a large quantity so they’ll cost more upfront but you’ll need to use a double layer of Swiffen Pads for the same protection making them more costly. The smaller quantity of Swiffen Pads would be an economical choice for homeowners who only had an occasional need for them. Otherwise, if you use absorbent pads often around your home, invest in Pig Mats.

These absorbent pads are handy for the occasional oil or gas spill. Sometimes it is difficult to catch all the old fluid, especially if the drain is obstructed. These absorbent pads are great to mop up the mess. I also like them to work on small engine carburetors. I lay out a couple of pads and use them as a work surface. The old gas is quickly absorbed and the small components don't easily roll away. The only thing I do not like is the price. I am not sure what goes into making an absorbent pads but this rather small roll is pricey. So, I believe the function and quality of this product is good but the price does not make it a good value.
