I have a clear case that has a fan on top, and it came with individual heat sinks for the CPU and memory chips. Since this is the official heatsink, I wanted to try it to see if it cools any better. The new cooler comes with 3 thermal pads already attached to it. Installation was very simple. I just had to align the holes on my Raspberry Pi 5 with the spring loaded pins on the heatsink and push the pins down to lock. I had to remove the fan from my clear case so that the top cover would fit back on.I ran a couple of benchmark tests to see if it made any difference, and it seems to be 2 or 3 degrees cooler with the new heatsink. The fan speed is controlled by the Pi through temperature readings, and it never gets too noisy.Overall I can recommend this heatsink, especially if you are overclocking your Pi and need to keep it cool and from overheating.

Or is it a clever counterfeit? I must admit, I was suspicious of this being the official cooler. I have two other R-Pi coolers, purchased from one of the "official" pi outlets, and I can't see any difference in appearance. As far as function, it installs, fits, connects and works exactly the same.

There isn't much to say about this. This is the official Pi 5 heatsink and fan. It fits and plugs in correctly. The fan comes on when needed.

Active cooling is a must have for the Pi 5 to get the most out of it. The official cooler is simple to install and works great. It's low profile so it won't interfere with any hats or cases. Definitely grab one for any of your Pi 5 projects.

The official active cooler is perfect for the Raspberry Pi 5. It sits directly on top of the main chips and is held in place by a couple of spring-loaded plastic anchors.I plan to use this with a Radxa Penta SATA HAT to create a RAID-5 NAS. This should have no problem keeping the main board running cool.
