in general, it works, but when you get to the wide chips or are using smd-to-dip adapters, it doesn't fit very well. with the wide ICs, you have to fold the leads so flatly, and forget about the smd-to-dip adapter. unless you get the one with super thin leads, or it'll never work. the pins also have a reputation of breaking or falling out.

These are cheap sockets but they hold ICs well and solder nicely. If you are using them to socket old boards, take care to ensure the through holes are clean. If not, you will push the pins out if they hit an obstruction. If some pins get pushed out, just reinsert them through the top and make sure they are seated, no big deal. Worked great socketing an old C64.

These are very useful and I highly recommend! All sorts of projects can use an IC socket instead of soldering the IC directly to the board. This pack contains several different sizes so I always have an IC socket on hand.

This is a really good quality case. It is a thick plastic that fits very well. I would definitely purchase this again. Can't beat it for the money

I rarely use sockets except while I am transferring a project from breadboard to pcb, where I can socket a chip and if the test is faulty, I don’t ruin the chip by desoldering it. Once the circuit works, I remove the socket and hard-solder the chip to the board. So there still is a use for sockets, and this product is an adequate assortment. Worth the price. And, needless to say, it’s from Amazon, so it arrived in my mailbox in just a couple of days.

I got these mostly as a contingency against my "growing pains" in hobby electronics so I haven't used many of these sockets, thankfully.I did use one the other day; I was building a bass guitar overdrive pedal from a kit, which included two IC's and sockets. I did such a sloppy job soldering the first socket to the pedal's PCB that I desoldered the socket, which long story short, ended up ruining it.Once the struggle to extract the now useless socket was over, I simply took a eight pin socket from this kit and continued building. Thanks to my having this on hand I was able to finish building the effect pedal in a timely manner (the pedal works too, believe it or not). The socket I took from this kit dropped right in to the PCB I was working on, I didn't even need to bend the socket's legs in or out. I expect all of the sockets in this kit will work just fine.

I really needed only the 16 and 8 pins but worth it for future projects. The IC mounts do come with the nice sectional container pictured here.
