Believe it works fine but there is an issue with the tablet that prevents recognition of the battery. Works well when plugged in.

Though this item didn't arrive in the exact pictured packaging, it WORKS and has extended the operational life of my now obsolete Microsoft Surface RT, thus saving me the cost of $600 retail to upgrade. That's all that matters...so far, so good!!

Removing the old battery from the Surface RT went just like the CD/DVD showed. After many failed attempts to install the new battery, a piece broke off of the Surface RT and now does not work at all. I could not get the new battery to connect as it showed in the video.

When my original Surface stopped taking a charge, I was pretty sad. I went to the local MS store by which they told me there was no fix but I could give them $220 for a replacement Surface that might be new, used, refurbished, etc... I thought if I'm going to spend $220, I might take a look at other Win 8 tablets prior to making that type of decision as there are definitely a lot of good ones out there now for around $300-$400. As I was looking for tablets, I discovered these battery replacement kit videos on youtube. I build PCs frequently so after watching the video, I had a good amount of confidence that I could replace the battery using the kit.I decided $75 was worth a repair to a tablet I use daily so I decided I'd try the kit. The kit worked pretty much as described and I was able to follow along with the video no problem. The only exception was how useless the green wedge tool was in remove any of the case or when using it to remove the battery from the case. This is the reason for the removal of one star. The wedge tools edges did not hold their shape and became blunted very quickly during the process. I used my own jewelers' tools for wedging things out as a result. Also, know this... The battery is much harder to pry away from the back of the case than the video makes it out to be. It's stuck on their with some serious glue/tape. You will have to use some force during this part of the process. Just be careful not to bend the case backing while you're doing this; keep it flat on your table/bench.When researching the replacement process online, the only gotcha I read about was when flipping up the lock on the ribbon connector for the battery there was a chance of breaking the part off of the system board altogether so I was very careful in my approach during this step. I found no difficulty with this step, but I had to use a jewelers standard screwdriver rather than the included wedge tool to do this.Also, one thing to note is the screen might turn on during the install process before you have everything put back together. It turned on as soon as I connected the new battery's ribbon connector to the system board.Other than that, I've been using this replacement for just over a month and it's doing it's job. The battery life seems comparable to that of the old battery.Because of the wedge tool not working all that well and because of the part of the installation by which you have to use some serious torque to remove the battery from the case backing, I'd recommend someone do this who's maintained laptop computers (particularly because of the familiarity with the ribbon connectors), tinkered with stuff like tablets in the past or just has enough money to take that chance on learning a new skill for the science of it all. If you aren't one of those mentioned, I'd suggest you find someone who does and have them install this for you.All in all I'm glad I gave this a try. For $75 my tablet is working as it has for years. Solid product.
