If Mrs Burton is anything, she's consistent. I never worry if I'll like any one of her books.....I know I will. I know ill be pulled into the storyline almost from page one. Her ability to hide her killer in plain sight is uncanny. Maybe that's why I always figure out who the killer is early on, I'm looking in plain sight. Although, in this particular book, I had two suspects pegged I wasn't sure which it was until almost the end. I loved the main characters and how their backstory brought them to where they were. Such a fun, thrilling read.

Another 2 days without housework. I couldn't put this one down, so many twists in the plot, it kept me glued to my seat.Don't read this book if you expect to get anything done. Order out, open a bottle of Chardonnay and put your feet up.

Much better than the first book of this series. But once again I figured out early who the murderer was. Other books by this author are harder to solve, this series is good but lacks something the others have.

This was a serious and dark mystery accented with some tender loving. I was drawn in and guessing to the very end.Jo, a psychologist who consulted with the Texas Rangers was reunited with her long-ago ex husband, Brody, who was trying to find the missing girls he believed was killed by a serial killer. The killer, in jail and dying of cancer, would only talk to Jo. It’s not known why and that is part of the mystery.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to others in this series.

4.5 Stars! I really enjoyed this suspenseful romance by Mary Burton. It can easily be read as a stand alone book. I really enjoyed both Jo and Brody's characters and thought the author did a great job of showing us the complex feelings and awkwardness between them when they first meet up again after 14 years. The romance was definitely secondary to the suspense but still played a strong roll in the book and I liked that Brody took full ownership of the fact that he was a jerk to Jo when they were married as young adults. Jo was a strong, smart female who didn't instantly fall back into a romantic relationship with Brody even though they were still very attracted to each other. I liked that Brody had to earn her trust and prove that she could depend on him. As far as the suspense storyline went - I thought that was done very well. The author gave us just enough clues/suspects to have a good idea of who the killer was without making it obvious. I love a good serial killer suspense book and a second chance romance so putting the two of them together made this a fantastic book. I look forward to Book 3 in the series.

Mary Burton is another one of those writers you don't hear much about. But, after reading several of her books now, I know they are going to be good.

No Escape is a page turner thriller. Harvey Lee Smith, a serial killer on death row is dying of cancer. Smith is a skillful manipulator. Psychologist Jolene Granger had done some work for the Texas Rangers. Jo did her thesis on Smith without interviewing him. Jo learned that her ex-husband Texas Ranger Brody Winchester was the arresting officer. Their marriage didn’t last long. Jo sources were based on law enforcement records and interviews.Brody hasn’t seen Jo in fourteen years since their divorce. He is not surprised that she is doing very well and living in Austin in Hyde Park where doctors, lawyers and professionals lived. Jo was an A student at UT and a year ahead of her class. Smith has less than two month to live as his disease is spreading rapidly. He has a lot of secrets. In three-years, Brody hasn’t had a clue as to where Smith hid the bodies of his three victims. Brody was hoping to give the victims’ families some closure that locating the bodies would bring. The Warden at the Livingston State Prison calls Brody. Smith is ready to talk, if Brody makes arrangement to have Dr. Granger at the interview.Smith was playing mind games with Jo doing the interview trying to get into her head. Smith succeeded by asking personal questions and he knew everything about her. She asked Smith “Why me” It doesn’t make any sense that you single me out for this interview.” “If you look deep inside yourself you’ll unravel the puzzle.” When Jo left the prison, she had more questions than answers from Smith. He told Jo and Brody where to find the three bodies. Then, Smith dropped the bombshell. There is another killer out there. A boy he took into his home when he was twelve was raised by Smith like a son and groomed him to be a serial killer. When the technician used the ground penetrating radar they found four bodies not three. The fourth victim was in the ground over a week. Smith was in prison for three years. Smith’s apprentice had used the same modus operandi to kill the fourth victim. Jo and Brody are working together on finding the serial killer before he kills again. The killer is known early on in the story-line. As I was reading, I thought I figured out who the killer was. I was wrong. The ending was a cliffhanger that involved Jo’s mother Candace. It indeed took me by surprised. Candace appeared to be a strong woman.“No Escape” is the second book in the Texas Rangers series. The first is “The Seventh Victim,“ and the third is “You’re NOT Safe.” I recommend reading “The Seventh Victim” first in the series.

The plots of the 3 mary Burton's books i read are great, really, but too many similarities': the main character is a divorced or almost divorced woman who gets back to her man at the end, these men are cops each time... In 2 books, a woman has a roommate named Nicole, come on ! Quite disappointing because the reader gets mixed up. Why the easiness ???
