First off, there isn’t a whole lot of details I could find about this product so here are some info:- Dimensions: 6”W x 4 3/8”H (4 3/4” incl. top knob) x 1.5”D.- Matte Box allows for up to 87ø lens, the 67–72–77–82 adapter rings are 87ø on the outside (just like the Tilta Mini, as opposed to the standard sizes of 95ø or 114ø)- Filter adapters 67ø, 72ø, and 77ø have filter threads on the inside to attach additional filters on the inside, 82ø adapter does not (too tight of space).Onto the review:- The ring adapters are just like the Tilta Mini’s, where the matte box attachment area protrudes out, rather than the innovative SmallRig Mini Matte Box which has the adapter ring going inward, allowing for filters to be more easily stacked inside the matte box. I was able to use the 67mm & 72mm adapter rings with VND filters, apologies I don’t have a 77mm VND to test.- An improvement over the Tilta Mini is the screw placements, both the screw on the matte box to attach to the adapter ring is better, as it’s similarly designed to SmallRig’s, and the screw on the top of the matte box is off to the side, which allows better access to the 1/4”-20 & hot shoe on the top, if needed.- one thing I did notice with the top flag was that by being mounted off-center with a small rod was that it was more flexible to not close perfectly square to the matte box. I included a photo of this, and obviously it doesn’t impact the actual use of the top flag when open, but something that could be improved would be for a longer rod that would hold the top flag sturdier.Overall, very similar to the Tilta Mini Matte Box for around the same price, but has a couple small improvements I’m happy with. Had the adapter rings gone inward like the SmallRig’s one, and if the top flag rod been more sturdy, this would have given it 5 stars. I don’t own any 4” x 5.65” filters, so I can’t comment on how good the pin is at holding filters in the matte box. But being able to use 67-72mm VND filters on the inside is a win, and if I need extra space between the adapter ring and the VND, I can either use a step-up ring or UV Filter to increase the distance. So like, for example, 67ø lens -> 67mm matte box adapter ring -> 67-72mm step-up ring -> 72mm VND.Hope this helps anyone else viewing this product!

Nitze’s Mini Matte Box for cameras is a versatile kit that should work with most recording setups. There is a set of adaptors to thread onto camera filter threads. These cover most lenses I own with 67,72,77,82. The matte box also has an adaptor to attach it to camera rig tubes; this is on a tensionable swing to adjust to the position of the (15mm) rods on your rig.The box only has a vertical barn door, and it doesn’t have any French flags. The door acts as the cover to protect your lens/ filter when in use. If you aren’t using the rod system you need to remove the matte box to put a lens cover on when you are done. The filter holder happily holds my 100 x 150mm filters; though it doesn’t have any filter built in retention on the opening end (like a tab or a lock.) The filter is held in by friction; I have been using a piece of tape give me some peace of mind. The filter holder can only hold one filter. The nice thing about the matte box is its weight; it weighs about 119g (without a filter.) For outdoor shooting on a summer day, it’s a step up from a lens hood as it gives you more control over the light hitting the lens; it also makes it easy to use 100x150mm filters without needing other adaptors. It’s a great starter matte box; from the price, the lightweight not making your arms droop on a long day. If your project has you shooting in bright sunlight for hours you may want one with more options to block light (or use some black paper and tape to get what you need.)

This is a good quality metal construction matte box for multiple uses, as long as you only need a top flag. The single flag is good for our use, and is as shown in the listing, just noting it because some people need side and/or bottom flags as well. The flag is easily removable if you only need to use the filters. We like that it has mounting points on the top and bottom so it can be mounted to multiple rigs, or use the top mount for accessories, and especially like that there's a knob that will lock the flag into place once you have it adjusted to your liking. (Same knob you'd use to remove the flag)It comes with 4 different size metal lens rings, and those also lock into place with a large thumb screw once you have the right size ring inserted. Note: If you need a different size lens ring that the ones the kit comes with, it would be super easy to 3D print one, or find a service to print one for you (google search). The Matte Box has a 3-sided slot for standard 4" x 5.65" filters, which are the standard dimensions for this size Matte Box, and compatible with Tilda, Small Rig and others that are easy to find on Amazon. The filter slot has a small spring loaded screw to keep the filters in place (a nice feature since most filters are glass), and you can lock down the thumb screw once your filter in place. All the parts are metal, except the flag which appears to be CF, so all in all very durable for a matte box in the price range.

If you're looking for a budget Matte Box as a new starter in mirrorless camera filming, then you could do a lot worse than the Nitze Mini Matte Box. It's very light with a useful carbon fibre flag to keep glare off the lens. Several adapter rings allow you to cater fro anything from 67mm to 82mm ring fitment. It does come with a rod mounting bracket and I think the logic is that you can attach this to your camera cage and rotate the matte box out of the way. It's a pretty useless bracket in my opinion and I took it off the moment I got it. Personal preference. Instead it clips on to the end of my lens. Not the best way to have it mounted and I would have preferred it to fit to dual parallel 15mm rods instead. But for the price, this is not a shabby Matte Box. The one other thing I wish it had was square filter holders. Instead, you slide the glass directly into slots on the front. That feels a little basic to me and I would have prefered it if they had frames to give the glass filters added edge protection. But you can't have everything for $50. And if you're new to filming and want something basic until you decide on something more permanent, then you can do a lot worse than this Matte Box.
