PolarProof - Cleaning & Waterproofing Steps

Prep

1. PREP

Zip zippers & empty pockets. Clean detergent drawer in washing machine to remove any residue. Place garments in machine.

Wash

2. WASH

The garments must first be cleaned with Nikwax Tech Wash. Add Tech Wash to washing machine, then wash according to garment care label.

Do NOT use household detergents as they will compromise the waterproofing treatment.

Proof

3. WATERPROOF

When the wash cycle with Tech Wash is finished, leave items in washing machine. Shake PolarProof well, add to washing machine and wash according to care label for a second wash cycle.

Do NOT combine Tech Wash & PolarProof together within the same load.

Dry

4. DRY

Dry according to label (dryer or air dry).

I have a few different jackets that are fleece that I have been using this for them exclusively with tech wash. The pair works great to maintain the pile and the water resistance is great.

Does add some water resistance to fleece but it certainly doesn't waterproof it (I never thought it would). More like a little extra help on damp or misty days.

Polar proof works well and makes any fleece water repellent to a good standard. It seems to rejuvenate the appearance and feel too. I use it on my 15yr old berghaus fleece -and it looks almost like new. When water stops “beading” on it; reproof it. Simple.

Went on a rainy bike ride today with treated fleece jersey and bib tights and found the this really makes the water bead up rather than soak right in. Eventually you get wet but this lets less water soak in. Even once wet it seemed to be repelling water quite well which in turn let me warm up the water that was already on me more effectively thereby keeping me warmer. As with all their products so far, pricey but highly effective.

Good waterproofing is what you need to replenish to your fancy clothes. I used to wash my outdoor gears in normal detergent, but little did I know my waterproofing is gradually wearing off. Nikwax is by far the best to treat your gears, you can do it on other garments at your own risk, I don’t think it will damage or anything, but if you have the water repellent needs then give it a shot

We have gotten in the habit of using this on all of our sweatshirts and work pants. About every third wash we will do a water proofing load where we add this to the load. Its specific for fleece, but it works great on most any material. May not last as long, but it is worth having a cotton sweatshirt that will last an entire day in the rain.

Picked this one up to go along with the Nikwax Cleanser for my husband's duck hunting clothes and my rainjackets. Seems to work pretty good. You get about 2-3 washes in a small bottle though. I'll try and find a larger size.

Really fluffs up old polar fleece and makes it softer as well. Not exactly like new, but certainly gives it new life. I've used it on medium-weight to heavy-weight jackets and blankets. A bit pricey but it took a whole 8 oz bottle to clean 2 jackets so the bigger size is needed to handle all the fleece I have.
