I got this for my daughter who trims her 2 horses. She usually uses a red tang, but it was getting dull, so I ordered this one, since the red tang wasn't available at the time. She tried it and went back to using the dull red tang, which she said worked better than this new one.

Very good rasp and worth the little bit extra than I was originally intending to spend. I work on the shape of my horse's feet in between farrier visits and this makes the job easy.

For the price this rasp is nice. I just started trimming my own horses. I start with my “fancy” Cody James rasp and then switch to this one to take off a bit less at a time. It does what I want it to!

Nice, sharp rasp. My go-to for hoof trimming. Can't beat the price - this rasp is easily on par with rasps that are more than double the price.

Cut it in half, welded a simple handle on it. I work outdoors, in boots all year long. Calluses on my feet get thick, and hard. Take a hot bath, and use this tool, ( as modified to 6") after your feet are clean and soaked. Takes calluses off perfectly. Feet like a kid again. I got sick of messing around removing calluses the HARD way. Now, I remove them safely, as needed.

I waited to write this review as I wanted to see how it compared to my other rasp that I bought and how it stood up to the test I was going to put it under. I love this rasp much better than my Heller Black Master Rasp for my miniature horse's ridiculously hard hooves. Not only are these hooves hard but this rasp is also taking a beating keeping down the fast growth as well that it's being used almost every day. So far it's staying sharp and standing up to the challenge! I definitely will be buying more of these.

I chose this rasp because it has built-in cushion grips on both ends so it doesn't need a handle. It comes just wrapped in paper which isn't as good for storing it as the rasps that have a cardboard sheath. The first one that I received was the wrong item - it was a Nicholson tool file that was mislabeled. I returned it and received the correct item, next day.

This rasp is quite sharp on both sides. The file side is pretty coarse, which should make quick work of filing cliches, filing shoes and smoothing hoofs. I like the handles built in which will make it easy to stow away in a hoof first aid kit and they are a big improvement in the tang other files use. I have yet to use it for trimming any hoofs, but I have used it to shape a gunstock and I can say that it works very well.

Good basic rasp to have. Got this to help upkeep my horses hooves between trims and love it. Does its job and is very affordable. I'm very small and have draft horses, so needed something that would do a lot of the work for me without me having to put too much effort in. Previously, I had always used old rasps that my farrier didn't need anymore. Switching to this I found out what I have been missing out on. This rasps down their hooves with very minimal effort. The coarse side I found is a little more difficult to use that the other, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually. Would definitely buy again, but I doubt I will have to for a long time. My only wish is that it came with a better handle.

I really like Nicholson files. On one side of the rasp it is a Very Aggressive File.On the second side is an even More Aggressive Rasp.Along both edges are "Mill Mark" file features.I don't work on horses, so I can't review any Farrier application of this rasp.I do work on wood and other softer materials (i.e.: plastics, fiberglass, etc.).If you've never used one of these Rasp's on wood before, then I'll tell you these are great for: Quickly fitting wood pieces together. Removing ragged edges after saw cuts. Breaking or rounding edges of "Rough Lumber." Or with the edge file teeth, quickly and easily cutting grooves or notches. My last Ferrier's Rasp was stolen, so this is a replacement. This Nicholson Ferrier's Rasp is well made, SHARP, and easy to use because of the orange grip surfaces.I recommend this fully.

This is a high quality rasp: sharp, durable and easy to use.It is really comfortable for an amateur. If you do your own trimming or have to clean up a foot between blacksmith visits, it is especially well balanced for someone who doesn't do this kind of work every day.So far, the rasp has held up to several trims but I'm considering buying another one just to have a spare. There are no intentions of going back to a traditional handle rasp.
