About this item

  • Visibility in Open Water. The brightly-colored New Wave Swim Buoy is exceptionally noticeable to boaters, jet skis, paddlers, surfers and some say, can be visible from space. Improve your visibility to avoid getting decapitated by a jet ski or a speed boat. Swimmers in black wetsuits are virtually invisible in the open water - New Wave Swim Buoy will display your prominently in the murky waters of the Loch Ness Lake - even the Loch Ness Monster will not confuse you for a tasty harbour seal.
  • Safe Place to Float and Rest. Because of the natural buoyancy, the New Wave Swim buoy can be used as a flotation device. You have reassurance that in case you cramp up or simply need rest, you are able to grab the float.
  • Very light to bring with you on a paddle board or kayak trip. While the New Wave Swim Buoy does not replace personal floatation device (PFD) or a swim life vest, widely used by kayakers and standup paddle boarders (SUP's), the New Wave Swim Buoy is very lightweight (only 10 oz) to bring along for a refreshing swim workout in the open water. Add a bike blinker inside the float and your aqua-visibility quadruples or maybe even quintuples!
  • Storage of Personal Items. The New Wave Swim Buoy is useful in point to point swims. Fastened to your waist by a belt with a tether line, the New Wave Swim Buoy has a storage compartment that is separate from the Inflatable Air Chamber. What do our athletes put in the buoy? Sunglasses, sunscreen, body glide, extra cap and goggles, running shoes, socks and clothes, diving mask, snorkel, camera, water shoes, iPod… What would you take with you on a water-journey?
  • Improved Monitoring of Athletes. If you want to keep an eye on your buddies or loved ones, or make sure that other swimmers are still in the race, spectators, officials, and lifeguards alike will appreciate the ability to see the swimmers from afar. If you put your cell phone in a Ziploc bag, you can have your phone sharing your GPS location via MapMyRun or RunKeeper or Garmin Connect apps too to track exactly how far you swam AND to broadcast your location in the water.

  • Ultimate visibility in the open water.
  • A safe place to float/rest while swimming.
  • A separate compartment to store personal items.

REVIEWS FROM OUR NEW WAVE SWIM FAMILY

WONDERFUL

I finally had a chance to use the "New Wave Swim Buoy - Med (15 liter) PVC Fluo Green" that I bought, directly from New Wave Swim Bouo, a few weeks ago. AND I LOVE IT! It's great for swimming freestyle in open water with its super fluorescent color. Lifeguard, loved ones and ANYONE can see me from ashore regardless how far I'm out. It's a WONDERFUL added water safety device. I bought the kind where I can put items (keys, wallet, phone, etc) inside it too! It inflates and deflates in a snap! And if you want to take a break from swimming, you can hold onto to the buoy and relax. Overall, I absolutely love my "New Wave Swim Buoy". I highly recommend to anyone and everyone! ~ Lisah

This Is The One - Great Swim Buoy

Since all the pools have been closed, my sister and I swim in this huge estuary several times per week. Other swimmers have found this spot, too, and many of them have swim buoys. We realized we needed visibility, too, for our safety and our fellow swimmers. I researched and New Wave got top ratings. We got the buoy with storage so our keys can come with us (no more hiding them on the beach). Like the reviews said, little to no drag, even in chop, easy to inflate, and very durable thus far. ~ Jef Danhar

Like not wearing a buoy at all, just hyper-visible

My open-water swim (OWS) group strongly urges swimmers to use a tow float, and it's made the swims so much less worrisome. You can see and keep track of swimmers all across the lake. The swimmers with New Wave Swim Buoys are another level of visibility entirely. No one has complained of a puncture or other problems yet, and when we give new swimmers loaners, they're surprised by how little they notice them. I'd actually recommend the standard buoy over the bubble. Not that there's a single thing wrong with the bubble, but neither is noticeable while swimming, and it's not much extra money to have the dry-bag option. ~ Ashley Crocker

I received my 20 liter New Wave Swim Buoy today. Delivery was quick and as promised. I took it on a half mile swim in the Tennessee River. I discovered that by resting my arm on the tether it rides on my side exactly where it should be.When I turned around I rotated the belt so that I could rest my other arm on the tether. This way I keep the buoy on the traffic side as I paralleled the shoreline.A half mile swim with oversized fins is hardly Olympic but I'm 74 so it's far enough.I can recommend this buoy. The materials are good. The design is well thought out. I dig it.My picture makes it look yellow but it's actually orange orange and highly visible.

This float is not durable enough to be used in the ocean or any body of water with waves The float buckle that attaches to the belt broke on the second use while swimming out / dolphin diving through low surf - 2 foot waves. This unattached the float from my belt and floated away. Thankfully the tide was coming in and the wind was light and a stranger was able to retrieve it down the beach. So it did not add to more ocean plastic trash. The belt’s plastic buckle had broken. I used a aluminum d ring off my key chain through the belt’s fabric and the remaining plastic buckle and back out. But that plastic buckle broke immediately on the first wave. This product would not last two seconds on larger surf.

Brilliant. Will be recommending to friends! Good size for valuables, I still put my phone and car key in a waterproof case inside the tow float but you'd be daft if you didn't!Big enough to rest on if you need a break. Really glad I went for this one. Use it for swimming and paddleboarding dry bag! Looking forward to doing a night swim and putting a torch in it!

I do a lot of sea swimming and as the water temperature cools down, I am more likely to get cramp or cold wrists and hand joints. This gives me the reassurance that I can stop swimming, rest and recover with the buoy keeping me afloat in deep water. As well as valuables you don't want to leave behind on the beach, you can also store a spare PAYG mobile in a waterproof case inside the bag section for emergencies. I'm talking about a simple and small rubberised Nokia or something, which everyone seems to have lying in a drawer somewhere at home, and won't cause too much upset if it ends up soaking wet or at the bottom of the ocean if you drop it. The fluorescent orange is also a safety feature if anyone has to come and find youi. Towing the buoy behind you when swimming is a breeze, and you never notice it being there. Unless of course you carry a lot of items in inside the bag, then you probably would notice the extra weight.

Great buoy! I was worried it would affect my swim stroke and slow me down but that was not the case at all. Put my keys in it and the bag with them was a little damp but nothing a sandwhich bag couldn’t stop. Overall good value for the money. Only ask would be a slightly bigger buoy to make it easier for boats to see, but that would Probably make it too big or heavy.

Took this out yesterday for a 2 mile swim in a harbor with lots of small boat traffic. I could be seen from a great distance as judged by people waving at me from boats. I would not quite say that I do not know it's there, it produces a very small tugging sensation as you swim, but it does not interfere with my stroke and is definitely very reassuring for ensuring visibility and providing something to hang on if you get cramps (as I do from time to time). Equally important for me is the ability to bring stuff with me. I stashed a pair of running shoes, energy gels and some electronic equipment in a ziploc bag and all seemed to work well. You need to be able to land somewhere to access your stuff, trying to take it out in the water would probably be a very bad idea. However, being able to swim point to point and have my shoes with me at either end, or stop off at a beach to refuel (and check my glucose levels, I have type 1 diabetes), opens up a lot of new possibilities. I found that when walking around the deflated bag could be effectively folded up and clipped to the side of the belt and was unobtrusive...the next step, which I haven't yet tested, will be to try to running with it, I've got some swim-run adventures in mind! To summarize my thoughts, this gives me the confidence to be able to do swims I would not otherwise attempt and I highly recommend it to any open water swimmer.
