How can the cylinder be shinny? Cast metal?

Installed on my 93 fourtrax 300 got around 20 hours on it so far so good

Parts showed up all in great shape, until I opened the piston rings package all the rings were great ecepet for one ring was broken. Had to order a new std bore ring set at my cost for $79.98 with shipping cost. Was probably shipped in new shape, but got broken in the shipping process. Wow!!
