Since the higher voltage is to the inner working of the chip, it doesn't affect the other power sources within the recorder itself. It's only for the chip itself. Works great and it's back up and running. Thank you.

With my old DS1287 chip, the PC would attempt to boot and the screen text would say, "battery low" among other things. When I put the new chip in the computer screen never showed any text at all and all that happened was that the new DS12C887+ chip got warm. I tried both parts which looked fine, but absolutely did not work for me. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did.

The IC came well packaged in antistatic material. Plugged it in , booted into CMOS to reset time, date and boot order and all was well with my vintage 1995 486 Windows 95 machine. Was pleasantly surprised that this clock/battery combo IC was still available.
