This thing is an absolute nightmare. I’ve been using Wi-Fi since the dial-up days, and somehow, in 2025, Netgear still can’t make a Wi-Fi extender that just works when you plug it in. I spent OVER TWO HOURS troubleshooting every possible thing, following every step, and got nowhere.   •   The app is garbage. It’s just a maze of dead ends with no actual troubleshooting help. Oh, can’t connect? “Try again.” Yeah thanks, Netgear.   •   Wired setup didn’t work. Plugged it in, swapped cables, changed ports—nothing. It just sat there, lights on but brain-dead.   •   The router didn’t even see it. I manually checked every connected device, hunted down the MAC address, tried to ping it. It may as well not exist.   •   Netgear acts like this is plug-and-play. Hilarious. You’ll spend less time setting up a brand-new PC from scratch than trying to get this thing to work. This is what happens when corporations care more about squeezing out another half-baked product for quick profits than making something that actually works. Quality? Customer satisfaction? Whatever. What really matters is that the CEO gets a bigger yacht.Returning it. If you enjoy wasting hours of your life yelling at a blinking box, this is the product for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and buy literally anything else.

I bought this EAX15 model to extend my home wifi to my detached garage based off online recommendations and it worked like a charm. If you’re looking for a simple, nearly plug and play way to extend the signal on your property, this is a reliable way to go.

I have bought 4 of these so far, and 2 I gave away. I've been using IPERF3 for testing with my pair and decided I wanted to know exactly how much speed I was getting from these. When using just 1 as an AP, I got upwards for 180Mbps. The band steering features seem to be working well, and other 802.11ax features, as I disabled the 2.4Ghz interface and noticed a drop in speed by about 20Mbps. In a test with two extenders forming a wireless bridge, one in AP mode, the other in mesh mode, I noticed slightly higher speeds, as much as 210Mbps (with both laptops wired in to the ethernet ports). These devices work really well in this configuration, which is surprising as both of my laptops have Intel AX201 wifi cards. I was expecting the 1 AP configuration to provide more throughput. The worst configuration was using both in the mesh mode with the main router being a Ubiquiti AP that I have no management access to. In this configuration I was receiving about 40 to 60 Mbps. I believe the Ubiquiti might only support 802.11ac in my test. The downsides are that the web configuration is slow, there's no access for SNMP (as this would be excellent for more network insight), and without proper mesh intelligence the performance could (emphasis on could) be bad for an uninformed consumer. However, the web configuration is really well thought out and guides most general use cases to an optimal solution. I'd recommend the Netgear EAX12 for most home and business installations as I'm rather happy with buying my set.If you lose network access when trying to connect to these devices, try accessing the webpage through IPv6 with the device's built in MAC address. Try opening [ipv6address]/list_extender_device.htm in your web browser (with the square brackets) to see the device. There are websites that convert MAC addresses to IPv6 addresses which should help you get access to the device.

Very easy setup once I figured out the tiny URL was the one I was supposed to be using. Then it was easy. It did extend my internet, but when doing a speed test afterward, even in the same room as my router, my signal was cut down to one fifth of what it was. Doesn't seem to affect performance, but just odd.

So easy to set up this product. We use it for our security cameras that are a bit too far away from the main router. The cameras work great now with better live stream picture.

so quick and easy to set up via the app - simple to install, my Foxtel box did not pick it up, so rebooted Foxtel and it picked it up instantly :-) the household was good to go in about 10 minutes.

Despite having a Netgear Nighthawk RAX45 and no close neighbors, some of my wifi cameras kept loosing signal from time to time so I had to choose whether to replace it with a complete mesh system in the $500 upwards or find a cheaper solution by just extending the wifi where it needed. Given the fact that my current router was only 8 months old, I chose the cheapest way and so far so good, only time will tell if it was the solution. Setup was way more confusing than advertised mostly because of bugs in the Nighthawk app, it was not difficult but tricky. At some point in the process, you are asked questions you should not be asked with no option out like when the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands are shared, the 5 Ghz is not visible to repeat (for some reason) and the app asks which 5Ghz you want to extend with 0 choice... All in all, it does the job but the admin app and the web interface are seriously lacking features. The app is sluggish for no reason and does not see the extender all the time especially you switch from the router to the extender more than twice. Fixed IP address devices are not shown properly by the extender, only MAC addresses are displayed and all devices connected to the extender disappear from the list of connected devices on the router (???). I had to run a IP scanner to know which devices where connected to the extender and I discovered that the extender substitutes the MAC addresses of connected devices with a fixed IP to its own MAC address, HOW SO? Please Netgear, fix your apps, look at what Ubiquity does!!Update 20 Mar. 2024: After a year or so of use, I confirm the buggy web admin interface that cannot display properly which device is actually attached to it, not even an IP address. What kind of router is this? The network extension seems to be random, I get a lot of disconnect alerts from my wifi cameras that are not that far from it. I think Netgear is overselling their products and does not really care about the firmware of its devices.
