I bought this modem only because my Aries commercial became outdated. I have the nut gear router so I figured I would buy the Netgear modem. The reach on this modem is terrible, I have a garage 20 feet away from my house and it has a hard time Connecting to my camera if the power goes out and you have to try to re-hook this modem to your router plus to my Xfinity. You will have a terrible time. I even had an Xfinity agent here and it took him two hours to try to hook it up. I was even told by several people from Xfinity that Netgear is the most difficult, incompatible system that they ever have to hook up. Unfortunately, after spending the money that I spent on this modem and I’m passed the return date, I will be switching back to a new version of Arris.

Quality of item was as if brand new.I was a little concerned buying a refurb considering the range of DOCSIS 3.1 (as in it will likely last years as a standard for a home cable modem) and expected product longevity (you want to have the modem last years as well without concern or need for further replacement) but I have had no issues at all and the modem works spectacularly.I am very happy with the price and Prime ship time as I needed a modem fast when my previous modem failed. I am a remote worker and reliability of a data connection is critical. My modem and high end router of the same brand now work together perfectly.Setup is as easy as calling your cable provider, and you save the cost of any cable fee for leasing equipment.

I waited a week before writing a review, just to make sure all was good with the modem. I was a little wary ordering a refurbished version, especially after seeing some of the reviews here. But, with Amazon’s return policy, I figured it was worth a try since the price was almost half off of new.The modem arrived in a plain brown box, was well packed inside, and after looking over the modem, I couldn’t tell this wasn’t a new modem, other than the round sticker on the back stating it was a netgear official refurbished product.I got this modem to replace an old Arris 3.0 modem that limited my speed to roughly 300mbs down. It was a freebie from a family member to get me by, and it worked ok, but I am now getting the 1G package from Mediacom.I hooked up the Netgear, following the instructions for installation included in the package. After a quick 10 minute call (if that) to Mediacom, I was up and running, at full 1G speeds. Over the past week the modem has been rock solid, no resets needed, haven’t noticed any slowdowns or dropped connection. I really can’t find anything to complain about, other than I wish I could mount it horizontally, since it’s larger than the Arris modem it replaced, and doesn’t fit on the shelf where I had that modem. Even out in the open, it certainly looks much better than the white Arris modem I was using. Lights aren’t obnoxiously bright and overall look is pretty nice really.

What's not to like. It works flawlessly. Only 1 output, which is what I wanted, because I purchased a powerful wifi router. So the modem stays open, but my Router is a Firewall to my LAN, with software firewalls on all my computers which are of course password protected. As a former Webmaster, I've always trusted NetGear for 30+ years.

I would like to start out by saying that you should not listen to the review regarding Mediacom not being able to activate the refurbished modems! I purchased the modem before I started reading the reviews and as my apt with Mediacom got closer and closer I worried more and more that I would not be able to activate the modem and that I would need to get it sent back, but I was wrong. Mediacom came and connected the item quickly without any issues and had my internet up and running in roughly 30 mins. The modem has a great connection and I get 600-800 mbps download (pay for 600 mbps) and 40-60 upload (pay for 40 mbps) without any issues. I am using this with the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh System and it is all plug and play. So again, keep an eye on the 5 star reviews and ignore the reviews that say anything about not being able to activate the modem as it is a lie.

My ISP has a more nuanced choice than the "suitable for Cogeco" It is not good for my area and has to be returned. Not a manufacturers problem.

UPDATE after 8 Months----------------------------I've used this modem for about 8 months so far and for the most part it's been okay. My only issue is that it drops connection about once a month and will stay that way until I perform a reboot. This started happening a few months ago. To reconnect, I unplug the modem for a minute, then plug it back in. After that, it stays connected for about another month. If this becomes more frequent, I will consider switching to another modem.ORIGINAL Post------------------I recently moved and found out, much to my dismay, that Comcast is my only hi-speed internet option. Irefuse to pay them any more that I have to, so buying my own modem was a must. This modem was reasonably priced compared to other brands and met the specs I needed.Installation was easy enough, but came with very little documentation. I am a full time IT engineer, but I think most people should be able to set this up without a problem.Once connected, I tested the speed and it performed well. I have an 800 mhz plan and got speeds exceeding that.My only wish is that it had more than a single ethernet port on the back. I have an Eero mesh router which has to use that port, so I have to plug in my ethernet switch into the Eero mesh instead of directly into the modem. This makes connecting to the modem's setup screens a bit of a pain.I am very happy with this purchase though.
