The NEEWER RF1-C Macro Ring Flash does exactly what it needs to do—deliver consistent, even lighting for close-up photography without adding unnecessary complications. The build quality feels very solid for the price, and while it's not a high-end studio tool, it performs well for macro shots of small objects, textures, and even portrait work when a softer light is needed. The interface is straightforward, with intuitive controls that allow for easy adjustments, and the inclusion of multiple adapter rings ensures compatibility with a variety of lenses. It will take a bit of trial and error to get used to using it but once it's dialed in, it delivers great results.Performance-wise, the flash provides a balanced illumination that eliminates harsh shadows, which is especially useful for macro photography where lighting can be tricky. The adjustable power levels allow for a good range of creative control, whether shooting highly detailed subjects or softer close-ups. The battery life holds up well through extended use, and the flash recycles quickly enough to keep up with most shooting scenarios. While it may not match the refinement of more expensive alternatives, it delivers reliable results for anyone looking to improve their macro shots or just getting into macro photography without breaking the bank. It's a great deal for the price, I would recommend.

Shooting close-ups indoors was always tricky, but this flash made a big difference. It clips right onto the lens, keeping everything evenly lit without weird shadows. I tried it on some tiny details, old coins, plants near the window, and it made everything pop without messing with my camera settings too much. The biggest downside? AA batteries. They drain faster than I’d like, and swapping them mid-session is annoying. A rechargeable option would’ve been better. Still, for the price, it’s a solid tool for anyone testing the waters with macro photography before splurging on something fancier.

I didn't know I missed this from my photo shoot collection. I been using a regular camera flash for a while, and it nice, but this just make the light much nicer when I'm up close on subject. It much cumbersome than just a flash, but it worth it. The magnetic filter are easy to install, but I didn't like to use them so far. The build quality made me feel like I was holding my original Canon flash. Everything felt good and the control also felt like it should be. The wire is a bit think and stiff, and when it was freezing, it did pull a bit on my zoom toward the camera, but I've since then made it a bit looser and it work just fine. So compared to canon macro flash, this is so much worth it at a fraction of the price.

It has been years since I used this type of flash. This works great for macro photography. No issues using it with my Canon EOS R6. I really like that it comes with a rechargeable battery and no more need to be carrying a bunch of AA batteries for these flashes. The interface menu is easy to use as well.

We use ours for product photography on an older Canon body and it was easy to set up and works well.It comes with everything you need, including ring light, trigger unit, and some snap-on filters.Easy to set up and use, and once you fine tune your settings you can get some great shots that you wouldn't be able to get without concentrated lighting.

This flash is awesome for product and close-up photography. And, the price is pretty darn good for what you get. Especially when compared to other brands in flashes. Touchdown Neewer!

I wanted to try macro. My tries were all right but I figured a ring light would increase my changes of keepers so I got this from Neewer. That’s a brand that I’ve gotten other equipment from finding the quality to be uniformly high.My camera’s a Canon R6 Mk 2. It’s not listed as being compatible with this flash but since the predecessor, the first R6 is listed, I figured the successor model will work with this flash too. It functions perfectly including ETTL. The flash comes with everything needed including filters for modifying the flash. It has what to me is the vital diffusion filter as well as warming and cooling ones. They quickly attach and detach to the ring unit using magnets. I’d have liked a true case rather than the product case with a thin plastic liner. The paper instructions are included but this model, while listed for sale on the Website, doesn’t include its PDF instructions. I prefer PDF because the paper ones inevitably will be lost. I’ll have to make my own.I wanted to include some plant, flower and insect close-ups but it’s been windy here since I got the flash. All my images made with this unit so far are test ones of boring household or shop objects. One issue I’ll likely have over time is the mass of this unit plus the camera body plus the Canon F/2.8 100mm macro lens. They mass 2 kg or about four and a half pounds. So much for my light and handy all day carry mirrorless. This does everything I decided I need in a macro ring flash with one surprising bonus. It does multi stroboscopic flashing with user controlled settings for everything relevant to that mode.I’m now all geared up and ready to make macro my own.

I am really into macro photography and currently own the Canon 100mm L lens, the M-PE 65mm macro lens, the YONGNUO YN24EX dual head flash and now this Neewer flash.Overall, like many other Neewer products this one has good fit and finish and offers the 90% of Canon quality and features at a quarter of the price. That is the bargain you strike when you buy Neewer. To every macro lover it quickly becomes apparently that light is the biggest limitations in macro photography. On a sunny day outside you are fine but try getting a clean (iso 100) image indoors and you'll struggle. A flash like this Neewer attaches to the front end of the lens which is necessary for macro because the front of your lens is so close to the subject and a traditional flash would cash a shadow from the hot shoe. This flash does not have moving heads so the lighting is relatively flat. You can change the power from left to right which can help create some shadows and add depth. The small size and simple set up makes this a lot easier to learn macro lighting and much easier to carry around. For a beginning I definitely recommend this before going for a dual head like the YONGNUO YN24EX.

This is a larger item but it does work well once you figure it out. It does require AA batteries rather than being rechargeable, which is a downside for me, but not enough to knock off a star.It has a lot of features and I was able to sync it up and get it working with my R8 (I also tested it on an R50).Overall, if you are looking for a flash like this, it's a very good choice.

It's taken me a while to try out this Macro Ring Flash due to an issue I was having with my camera (Canon T7i) and the fact that I tend to take outdoor photography at this time of year. But, winter's on the way, so I am hoping this will add to my photography hobby in a good way. This unit is a bit heavier than I expected, but I can adjust. It seems to be very well built and feels secure when it's installed on the camera.I'm not as happy with the fact that it's powered by 4 AA batteries, rather than being rechargeable. I will probably have to invest in rechargeable AA batteries. The instructions are fairly easy to follow and are comprehensive. To feel very confident in using this, I think it's going to take me quite a bit of practice time, but hopefully in the end it will be worth the effort.
