I've been using this grip for about three months now and I couldn't be happier. The shutter button, zoom buttons, dial, and 'a' button (for changing aperture with the dial) all work seamlessly. Dial is not as smooth as the one on the camera, but the difference is not bothersome. In fact it's barely noticeable. The grip adds some nice weight and bulk to the camera, and I really mean that in a good way. I feel like I have a better grip on the camera, since I can now comfortably grip the right side of the camera with all the fingers on my right hand. I took the grip off last night and immediately noticed how much harder the camera is to grip without the BG-E8. I put the grip back on right away!Switching batteries out is a snap. The holder comes out easily, you swap out the two batteries, (you have to have at least 2 to use this grip!) and it slides back into place and locks securely. I've had to swap out batteries on a few video shoots and my actors only had to wait for about 20 seconds while I switched them out.Haven't used the AA-battery holder yet, but I'm sure it will come in handy; it's nice to have it as a backup.Best thing about the grip, besides the extra battery life, is the feel it gives to the camera. I feel like I'm much less likely to drop the camera, especially when I hold it vertically. Also, I contacted the seller to ask about another product and they emailed me back in about 10 hours, so no complaints about the seller either!I received a Meike brand BG-E8, which is a good brand; some reviews say they've received other brands, but I'm going based off my experience with the seller, so I'm leaving 5 stars!

I bought this a few months ago, just a couple of days after the T3i was released. The T2i and T3i are mostly the same camera, but there are a few body differences and I was concerned whether or not this grip would fit as well as it does on the T2i. It absolutely does! For just over $30, this grip is just as good as any other 3rd-party grip, and indeed rivals Canon's own grip. Any serious shooter or gadget lover knows that Canon and Nikkon charge WAY too much money for their battery grips. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't buy an off-brand grip like this one.The finish is great and matches the camera well, it has a nice heft, the two batteries fit perfectly inside, the camera can still read battery levels, the buttons are nice and tactile, and even the scroll wheel feels good. You won't regret buying this grip.

After arriving today in the mail, I wanted to share my first impressions. I've owned other Canon DSLR cameras and have used Canon built grips on these cameras, so I will be doing a bit of a comparison here:Build: In comparison to the build of the Canon grips this grip is lighter and less substantial in feel. However this grip mates up nicely to the T2i camera. The latch on the battery carriers also seem a bit flimsy, and I would recommend exercising care in opening and removing the carriers from this grip. Another weak area would be the tripod mount, in OEM grips this area is reinforced with a metal plate, in this grip there is only plastic around the mount area. The depth of the mount is shallower than the mount on the camera so a large diameter washer may be needed for some mounting applications. If an OEM Canon grip is a "10" This grip would get 6/10 for build.Function: As I noted above this grip fits nicely to the camera, the placement of the buttons and controls are identical to those on OEM Canon grips. The feel of the shutter button and other buttons are a bit soft but functional. When I inserted a partially depleted battery in the grip, the battery indicator on the camera showed the battery in the red, VS one bar down when the battery is in the camera without the grip. I'm not sure yet how and if this will affect the overall battery life. This could be a sign that the wiring used in this grip is small gauge with increased resistance, or contacts that are not making full connection. With the battery fully charged the camera does show "full" though. 7/10 for FunctionOverall this grip seems to perform properly and looks the part. Not as well built as a Canon grip, but if you need a grip on a budget, this one at around a fifth of the cost of an OEM grip will provide you with vertical control and the ability to utilize two batteries at the same time while adding a bit more stabilizing mass. Conclusion: Around two thirds of the quality and build of a OEM grip for one fifth the price. That, in my book, makes this a good deal.

After an initial shipping mishap, I just finally got it and it works well. It's not as solid as Canon OEM grip, but still feels pretty sturdy. As long as it proves to be durable in a long run, the light weight is an advantage. A great way to improve ergonomics of Rebel series body without adding weight. Using camera in portrait orientation is much more comfortable now, thanks to the buttons on the grip (shutter, focus point selection, AE lock, and AV+/-). Landscape orientation is more comfortable as well, and it's easier to prevent camera shake when using the grip. Again, added size without much added weight is a big advantage. The grip takes two batteries and the contacts end goes into the camera battery compartment (you can't have a battery inside the camera). The camera's battery compartment latch needs to be removed (easy to do, if you have to force it you're not doing it right). There's a place on the grip to store the latch. The one-page manual is in Chinese and English, the English part is well written and concise.I would recommend this as an alternative to the much more expensive OEM grip.
