No one knows exactly how the magnetism happens but one theory is that bolts of lightning striking the magnetite causes the magnetic domains in the rock to become aligned. Anciently lodestone was used for navigation and for medicine. The first compass was made with a lodestone! These lodestones are not heavy-duty magnets. They are lightly magnetic and will attract small metallic objects like staples, paperclips and iron filings. The iron ore content also make the lodestones attracted to other magnets.

It does have some magnetic sand on it, but these won't pick up a paper clip. None of the ones I got stick to anything! Not worth waiting for, let alone paying for!

I purchased these stones for spiritual purposes. Fast shipping, and very well packaged. The stones came in a soft velvety pouch that was packed into a small, sturdy cardboard box. They are quite heavy as a whole, a nice variety of shapes, and none of them were broken. They are very neat and interesting stones. I’m happy with my purchase.

It’s not magnetic at all, not sure what type of rock I got and I have no way of verifying that it is genuine lodestone.
