So I bought this item back in March 2023. I was so excited when it arrived as I had amassed a small hoard of rocks to polish. I ran it, basically non-stop for over a year and a half, until the motor stopped working. I am extremely happy with how many rocks I was able to polish and the with the way they would turn out. I have had tumblers in the past and they never came out this shiny. I don't mind there being a fourth stage of tumbling as the last stage is the most exciting. I would do the final tumble with ceramic beads, polisher (grit#4) and the gem foam for 3 days on low speed an the results are amazing. The picture above is of some agates that I tumbled with this tumbler and "WOW!!", what a beautiful shine they have. I would love to know if there is a replacement motor I can purchase for it. If I can't get it going I will have to get a new one and I hate the thought of having to get rid of it. I don't like to throw stuff away. I'm sentimental and a bit of a penny pincher. I would rather get my investment back up and running than have to re-invest. Roxy the rock tumbler is tried and true she just needs a new motor. This tumbler is also extremely quiet but I still kept it in a cool corner of the basement and put a cardboard box over it to keep the noise down and unit cool. I live in a townhouse so I wanted to be respectful of the neighbors. I also really enjoyed the ability to set it and forget it. I would change the cycle when I couldn't hear it running. I got so many amazing results with this tumbler. It's a great product and so much fun to use. My kids always loved looking at the finished product with me. I totally recommend buying this if you are in the market for a really great beginners tumbler and want to get your money's worth. Great value. I would give it 10 stars if could. I'm very happy with this purchase and would buy again. ☺️

no one believes me when i tell them it's running right now in the guest room. much quieter than i thought. my sibling likes the white-noise.it only comes with enough grit for the included rocks, but the grit is not the best anyway. i haven't tried the "gem foam" yet. it stops automatically if you overload it so if it does, just take some rocks out, unplug it, plug it back in.

We didn’t think about how long it will take when Santa got this for our 6 year old boy. That being said, the instructions do say it will be approx. 4-5 weeks until the finished product is ready. The photo I included is from Step 1, before and after running it for 5-6 days. It’s not super loud- just sounds like a dishwasher that wasn’t designed for quietly running. We plug it in to the playroom and it is easy to forget it is running.Other models and complaints of not enough automation and run time being too much. This was worth the cost. Such a huge difference from when we put it in!

This was a gift for my daughter and grandkids. It was perfect because they are home schooled and were studying about rocks and gems. They got it during that week. It does take about a month for the rocks to finish being polished though! Boy is fun for them! Great value for the money! And very educational!

It's such a shame when you get your package and instead of the promised 2lb rocks get to be 1lb. The package was opened before arriving.

I've seen reviews of the national geographic tumblers, and the reviews mentioned that the motors don't last. I've purchased four of these tumblers now, and I lost my first motor after about 5 months of continued use.I don't mind losing a motor once in a while, but I do mind that they are such oddball motors that it's hard to find replacements for them.Update: I've purchased 5 of these tumblers now, and I just lost my second motor. We're not talking about years of use. We're talking about months of use.Given the fact that I've now lost two motors, and I've been unable to find replacement parts. I don't feel that I can recommend this product to anyone other than someone who only want to use it once, and then let it collect dust in the corner.Professional model is not a term I would use in referring to a tumbler that cannot hold up to continuous use for more than a few months. Tumblers are meant to be run continuously without a break, and these just don't hold up.If the company offered replacement parts beyond just offering drive belts, then it would be a different story, but as it is, my advice is to steer away from these tumblers, and look for ones that offer replacement parts. As for me, I'm in the process of building a large tumbler that will handle multiple barrels of various sizes, and will be driven by one larger motor that can handle the load, and if necessary, can be easily replaced. I ordered a replacement tumbler the last time I lost a motor. I won't be doing that again. This is the end of the line for me buying National Geographic products.Bye Bye.In fact, I'm going to knock off another star because replacement parts of any kind are hard to find for these tumblers.I don't want a new tumbler; I want replacement parts for the ones I have.
