The Best Way To Winch!

Have you ever found yourself in an off-road situation where you didn't or may not have had enough strength to recover a Jeep, Tractor, UTV or ATV vehicle with your winch? One of the most common solution tools used in recovery and tow trucks is the winch snatch block!

Snatch blocks are used to increase the strength of a line as well as providing new directional options for difficult towing jobs! They are designed for handling heavy vehicles, as they're also called Jeep snatch blocks and UTV snatch blocks, and work as a pulley point to redirect or change the direction of a winch line. These 4-ton snatch blocks for winches are used as a pulley block with a swing-open plate. It's recommended you use these off-road snatch blocks for short-line, intermediate jobs rather than heavy-duty, long-line jobs.

If you need a way to produce 100% more pulling or lifting capacity for your winches or change the direction of the winch cable, snatch block pulleys are the way to go! Sturdy, durable towing snatch blocks are ideal for short-distance towing and recovery situations for vehicles like ATV's and Jeeps! A snatch block allows for a smoother and easier winching process!

For all off-road and towing needs, snatch block for winches are necessary recovery accessories!

How To Use A Snatch Block for Winches

  1. A lot of off-road recovery snatch blocks have two rotating sides. To properly position your winch line, make sure the top part is rotated to fully expose the interior pulley.
  2. Now, with a D-ring, attach the non-pulley part of the towing snatch block to an anchor point.
  3. If you are recovering yourself, you can attach the line back onto the front of your vehicle and perform a double line pull.
  4. If you are helping someone else recover their jeep or ATV vehicle, more care is needed. You may be using the snatch block in this situation not for added strength, but to compensate for an odd angle. It’s important to have the vehicle you are towing facing the anchor point.
  5. Keep in mind that snatch blocks have a maximum weight capacity. You’ll want to make sure that both your winch line and snatch block can handle the force, otherwise the snatch block pulley may become deformed or your winch line may snap.

Off-Road Snatch Block Specifications:

Recovery Winch Snatch Block - 4 Tons
  • To determine the proper size sheave wheel, use a 12:1 ratio.
  • Capacity: 4 Tons
  • Maximum Load Limit: 10,500 lbs
  • Swivels open, do not have to disable to use.
  • Max rope diameter: 10mm/0.4"

Towing Snatch Block Benefits:

Increase Pulling Power

  • When choosing snatch blocks for winches, make sure that the working load limits of the winch and snatch block are compatible.
  • The winch snatch block must be at least as strong as your winch line.
  • Make sure the groove in the towing snatch block fits the diameter of your winch line.
  • A groove that is too large won’t fully support the winch line and could cause damages.
Change Directions

  • Since superwinch snatch blocks are anchored in a fixed position, the wider the angle means the less force the anchor point has to withstand.
  • Jeep snatch blocks are also used as anchor points to change the winch line direction from the disabled vehicle to increase pulling power.
  • Multiple small snatch blocks can even be used for self-extraction, by routing the winch line from the back of the recovery truck to several anchored blocks to the front of the truck.

How To Inspect Snatch Blocks for Winches with Hooks!

Wear and tear is a common issue with all recovery accessories. Eventually, you will notice the effect of time on the weight a snatch block can handle. However, regular and frequent inspections can help you know when it may be time to buy a new snatch rigging block. It's good to look out for:

  • Deformation: it's an indication of overload and replacement is necessary.
  • Swivel end-play of more than 1/16".
  • Spreading side plates must be repaired or replaced.
  • Looseness in the side plates is a sign of loose damaged or worn-out nuts.
  • Groove wear in the sheave is caused by cable wear; this will also reduce the wire rope life.
  • Any hook deformation, crack, gouge or distortion needs to be replaced.

Keeping your towing snatch blocks in proper working order will ensure your recovery accessories are ready for use when you need them most!

I love cutting down trees usually alone so i rig them with ropes to guarantee their direction of fall and my safety. I found the manner i was rigging the trees could be better served if i replaced the carabiners i was using with actual pulleys.. i have another tree slated for cutting and will use these pulleys. I have examined them and am satisfied they will work with my ropes They are attractive pulleys, sturdy, all moving parts move freely. I am happy with my purchase..

These are great blocks. I needed something for a hoist and implemented them. I painted them yellow to protect the cuts I made. They worked out awesome.

These pulleys do their job, I’ve had them at or slightly above there safe WLL and they held together and did not fail. The Inner shaft does have a grease zirk. The pulleys as far as I can tell don’t come lubricated so make sure to pump some grease into the shaft prior to use. Also on all the pulleys I ordered the grease zirk was loose so make sure you tighten it prior to use. one of the pulleys is showing wear after one use but im pretty sure i had it overload so the quality is not at fault.

On my first use of the 2 pulley setup, retaining clip on one of the pulleys came right off, impossible to be found. It's a good thing no one was hurt.
