The spring is too weak, and the plastic hose clamp is flimsy.

Definitely was worried about this after reading the reviews but it seems to work just fine for my road bike, a CAAD13. Granted, it’s not a fully loading touring bike. There are plastic parts but the parts that hold tension are all metal. My major complaint is that it doesn’t include a bolt to attach to the bike. Easy fix for me as I had a bottle cage on my back up bike I didn’t need, so I used the M5 bolt from that to attach to the mudguard mount on my CAAD. They should really include an M5 bolt as I assume most bikes would take that size.I made sure to install the tube clamp far enough down so I’d get enough tension by making light adjustments to the bolt on the clamp side.Put my bike on the rack after install and it held the front wheel straight just fine! Haven’t ridden with it yet but just moving it around while stationary. So, it works so far for me, and doesn’t seem as fragile as some reviews are stating, but again I use it for a lightweight road bike. Hope that helps!

Stops the annoying wheel turn when you park the bike. Happy with the product.

It definitely helped keep my handlebars from banging all the way back into themselves because of my new fork basket, but it isn't strong enough still to keep them straight. I have a heavy commuter with panniers, a tripod kickstand, and front basket and the bike was getting too heavy for its orginal kickstand and the wheel would always turn. This helps a little but the spring is not strong enough to keep the wheel straight when parked. It still wants to fall to the side. Might replace the spring with something from the hardware store

It is a very good product, it avoids the hassle of the cycle falling over, especially when you are using a twin centre stand. I use it on both my cycles, I am very satisfied, in fact I will be placing the order for yet another one, for my friends's Bicycle.

I've got three of these dampers. No doubt they add stability. Replacing the plastic clip with a hose clamp is a nice idea but so far has been unnecessary. The bikes are much more stable on their stands and it is a lot easier packing stuff into a front pannier.

Haven't even taken the bicycle out and I have to throw this gimmick away. Image is deceiving. Had to stretch the spring to 6.5 to 7" before it would stop the steering from flopping around without panniers attached (from a resting length of 4"). At this length the plastic clamp was under so much pressure on the top tube the the treads stripped - now it won't hold the spring in place. Waste of money. Maybe try the velo orange model instead. I might try and save this one by using a metal hose clamp.

The main clamp is hard plastic, but what do you expect for the price? In the end, this thing works quite well—it's durable enough, adjustable, and seems to be able to mount to just about any shape of downtube. It's a must-have for anyone with a front basket, center stand, etc.

I'm the kind of shopper who will read bad reviews and think, I'd rather see how bad this thing is for myself. I installed this as best I could given that the instructions are more of the diagram than written variety. You begin by placing the down-tube strap around the tube, then push through the strap to form a ring, make sure the rubber strip that is in the package is between the ring and the bike's down tube, then insert the weird plastic screw (with the hex/Allen key hole) and begin screwing in gently without pushing in the weird screw. You'll do this until the ring seals tight, then install the brake bracket, the spring to both the brake bracket and the ring around the down-tube and finish installing by following the diagram. I strongly believe that the initial ring/down tube installation diagram was not adequate. My installation wasn't secure and the rubber strip ended up falling out.Once installed correctly and tightly, the spring itself isn't strong enough for my front wheel with no additional cargo let alone when my front basket is full. Actually when the basket is full, this damper works better! So, as is the saying online, your millage may vary,

This item does not work (AT ALL) not even a little bit. It's as simple as that. And to return it is more trouble than the money you spend on it.Which occurred to me that a good business to get into would be one where I sell an item for a small price that looks good in theory, but in reality, does not actually work. Then all I need to do is sit back and count on other people like myself who won't take the time or go through the trouble to return it or ask for a refund. THIS could be a very lucrative business indeed..But by all means, try it for yourself. After all, it's only 8 bucks plus shipping costs. Not much of a gamble. If you do though, you will most assuredly end up just like me. Wishing I had spent the 8 bucks plus shipping costs on my favorite meal at In-n-Out Burger. Because that would have been money well spent...
