As levels of copper and zinc vary from one brass alloy to another so do the the properties of the brass, including its hardness. The Brass Rod listed here is highly machinable and fairly hard. It is excellent for key modifications, making posts, tool inserts, woodwind key extensions as well as most jobs that involve woodwind keys. Sold 1 foot lengths. Available in bare brass only.

It was the wrong size. I ordered standard and received metric and now I cant return it because I cut it to length and then realized it was the wrong size. I'm using it for a keyway for an engine but this wont work.

Some times you just have to have brass. For what it is and the size it is I always cringe. Its pricey stuff. If you need it and got to have it you have to pay up.

The product is exactly what I was looking for. Worked out well for the project I had intended to use it for (an inlaid brass cross into a wood box top). However, I ordered 5 pieces of this bar stock(3 of one size and 2 of a different size), paid for all 5, and only received one of each size. Missing 3/5 of my order means I couldn’t complete other projects I intended to in time. Even more frustrating, is there’s a very detailed packing slip that accompanies the product where an employee hand writes their name in that they checked the order for accuracy. Sadly, this order wasn’t checked very well. Even if the product itself is great, I can’t help but to have apprehensions about ordering multiple items from the same seller again. Hopefully the seller corrects the issue in a timely manner, at which point I’ll update the rating.
