Used this to monitor the building settlement of a large garage and also structural changes occurring in my home that needed to be fortified. If you have any question about cracks appearing in a garage or home this kit will help you to determine if it is getting worse over time, or if the building has finished settling. These can be taped to a location and left in place to monitor and also acts as a reminder to check.

My interest in this specialized flexible flat plastic tool is to check cracks in concrete floor slabs that have been destabilized by tree roots. The tool provides a quality set of engineering graphics on a card of clear plastic that allows me to visually take comparison and alignment measurements. The tool works well, but I must take care to prevent getting the plastic too dirty or scratching the plastic too much. The complete set allows up to 5 tool replacements. In some situations I use the set at up to 5 different measurent locations within a given area of concrete surface. I generally use photography to document the position of the tool at the subject concrete surface location. When necessary I use a microfiber cloth to clean grime build-up from the plastic tool. The tool is unique, and valuable for anybody taking specialized engineering-type small-scale measurements of surfaces.

I can’t speak to how useful these are for measuring cracks in concrete, but I present a different use case: drawing and jewelry making!After seeing the gaping sides these dragon scale cabochons were leaving in these earring trays I got, I wanted to test if the tray was oversized or the cabochon was undersized. This guide confirmed the former, as the cabochon squarely sits in the 25mm diameter. If you wind up with random findings and cabochons, you can test their size in the circles on the guide!It would be nice if one of the ruler sides had measurements in millimeters, but they’re both in inches.You also get a nice little carrying case which has been repurposed for storing cabochons. Jewelry makers and artists who draw tiny details will find these rulers useful, but I’d up my rating to 5 stars if there was a millimeter ruler on them!

These are very nicely made, it looks like it was photo processed instead of printing and that gives them a lot better control on the edges of small items. I'm using this with 3d printing to allow me to measure the original object that I'm either coping or the objects that my part will mate up to. Being able to see through the template makes the process of measuring a radius or small width much more accurate.

I am not a professional concrete-crack monitor. But this handy little Devonian High-Precision Tool is a surprisingly versatile tool for measuring things, other than concrete, in your home. The Devonian can also be used to measure the width of gaps, the thickness of any object, and the alignment of objects. I’ve found it to be very accurate and precise. It’s also very easy to use (as long as you’re wearing your glasses or as long as you still have keen eyesight). Simply place the ruler over the object or gap you want to measure, and align the appropriate scale with the object or gap. The width, thickness, or alignment can then be read directly from the ruler.It’s a long story, but I needed to measure the width of the gap between my refrigerator and counter, so that I could purchase the correct size cutting board to be installed.I also measured the size of some stud earring I ordered, and found that the earring company had sent me the wrong size.I’m glad I purchased the Devonian tool, but I really wish that the “tool” was larger and the print on it, darker. I struggled with seeing the measurements.

First thing that I noticed on this card is that some units are in millimeters and some are in inches. I don't really understand this choice. If I'm using inches then I'm probably going to want to measure my cracks in hundredths of inches, not millimeters.I took a couple spot measurements with my calipers of the printing, and it seemed accurate enough for most purposes. There are a good number of reference items to use on the card, including diameters, radii, angles, crack widths, etc.The plastic film is pretty thin, so I don't expect it to hold up to long use. Comes with a case that's sized for a stack of 100, not 5.The list price of $28 feels absurd for what this is. I usually get these for free from vendors.

From the pictures and description, I had expected this concrete crack checker to be quite a bit bigger.It's barely 4" x 5" or so... or about the size of the palm of my hand!That's so small it almost makes it unusable for many uses.It's also made of quite flimsy thin plastic, and again, not quite as expected.From the illunstrations on the product page, I would have expected this to be about FOUR times the size it is (2x width and 2x height) and would have expected it be about 3x or 4x as THICK...It does serve to provide a very basic crack size check.But for this price, I surely would have expected better quality!
