Works with every card I try though it just types out the value it reads from the strip not sure if there are programs to let me do more with it or if it can write blank cards as I have no blank cards but it does read

I needed something to verify ID badges and cards that are having problems being read or encoded.I needed something to see what data was coming across or not.This handy little portable mag stripe reader fits the bill and does not require me to load up any additional drivers.The price point of this portable scanner fits the bill and is very useful to have on hand.

Mag stripe readers are fairly simplistic devices in the reader world, and this one works like others that I've tried. Just plug it in and you're pretty much in business. Some software may require setup, but that's on the software. This reader acts like a keyboard wedge, and it's kind of fun looking at the information generated by a debit card or other card with a mag stripe.There are mounting holes with threads on the bottom allowing you to securely mount the reader.I had no problems making it work with a friend's POS system, so I'm giving it a straight 5 stars for price and ease of use.

In case you're like me and weren't sure how this works, it really is just plug in and use. In my case I work at a university and needed this to swipe student IDs - just open a Word or Excel file, plug this in and it easily scans the info contained in the strip - did not need to download any software program or learn anything new - couldn't have been easier. Very inexpensive option with no issues that we have encountered. One thing possibly worth noting: the magnetic reader is only on one side of the scanner (so for example, it DOES need to be facing one specific way). I don't consider this a problem but if it is for you, then you may wish to consider more expensive/sophisticated options.

Its small size fits perfectly in my gear bag, making it super convenient to carry around all day. I can swiftly swipe IDs and access cards without any hassle, which speeds up my workflow significantly.
