About this item

  • Designed for use with all MSR Lightning snowshoe models and lengths
  • 5 inches (13 cm) long to provide extra floatation when carrying more gear or moving through deeper snow
  • At just 9 oz (0.26 kg) per pair, tails are light and small enough to carry on any trip
  • Simple attachment system includes no moving parts or tools and can be installed without removing the snowshoes
  • Measures 10 x 8.25 inches in total

Our Lightning Modular Flotation Tails bring the advantage of our proprietary, adaptable flotation to our ultralight 360 Degree Traction frames. Small and light enough to bring on any trip, you can take advantage of the agility of a smaller, primary snowshoe in packed conditions, while adding 5-Inch (13cm) of flotation on-demand for deeper snow, or when carrying heavier packs.

I haven’t had the opportunity to use these yet, but they attach to my snowshoes perfectly and once attached are very sturdy.

I love that I can add these on to or remove them from my shoes quickly. However, I'll admit that I'm usually too lazy to pull them out and add them on.

They attach in seconds and offer some additional float. Great idea.

Work great and provide the necessary float on softer snow or when packing extra weight. Easy to mount and unmount for changing conditions.

I'm a bigger guy but don't need 28"+ snowshoes unless i'm in the deep pow. these are nice because I can wear my smaller msr shoes and throw these on only when I need them... A++ to the snow tails!

These mostly work fine. The fastening system is a little wonky for MSR, but it is convenient and awfully nice to be able to hike in non-fluffy snow without wearing too much snowshoe! They seem quite expensive for as little as there is to them, but then you don't really have any other options.

175lbs with 20lbs daypack & worn gear/cloths/boots (so 195lbs total) and found myself in some deep powder with 25" shoes in the Rockies a week ago sinking down about 8". Threw these on and was floating just 3" below the surface. So much easier to walk. Back to windswept ice/snow, the extra 5" sucked walking for a 1/4 of a mile as a test compared to just the 25" shoe. Use these instead of getting a longer snowshoe than you need for your weight and 5-10lbs pack. You will be much happier spending the extra than having a longer snow shoe than you need on days that don't have deep powder. Also the Lighting snow shoes are amazing!
