I bought these knurled nuts to convert the attachment method of a resonator "back" on a 5-string banjo from Qty. 4, Phillips-head screws, requiring the use of a screwdriver for their removal, to what I considered, pre-conversion, to then have much easier to use, knurled thumb nuts on studs.I installed M4 hanger bolts in the four wood block attachment points in the resonator, then I secure the resonator to the banjo body using four of these knurled nuts. These nuts are not knurled too terribly well, with them feeling, to my dry fingers, anyway, as pretty much just round nuts.It probably now takes longer to remove the resonator than it previously did with the Phillips-head screws, and it's more difficult for me to do.The only tiny advantage is that I no longer have to reach my arm out to my side table to pick up a screwdriver.I can't say that I've improved my banjo by having done this conversion.Your mileage may vary.
