**Review of Helmet Lock:**I bought this helmet lock hoping it would keep my helmet safe, but it let me down big time.The first time I used it, it worked fine. But recently, when I was out for dinner two hours away from home, it suddenly stopped working. No matter how many times I tried, it wouldn't open.The lock has another big problem: the numbers on the dial are hard to see because of the bad reflection. It's really frustrating when you're trying to set or change the code.When the lock got stuck, I managed to cut the wire with small, weak wire cutters. This showed me that the lock isn't as secure as it claims to be.Overall, I thought this lock would keep my helmet safe, but it's not reliable. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for something to protect your helmet.

I got the Avoeco helmet lock to use during pit stops or the occasional post-ride beverage at the trail head, mainly when mountain biking. The lock and cables are easy to use and work very well in deterring would-be thieves from snatching my expensive helmet.The coating on the cables is very thick, which prevents damage to the helmet and the steel or carbon fiber frames of my bikes. Each cable can stretch enough to thread comfortably through the helmet and through the bike's top tube. I prefer to use the orange cable since the bright colour makes it more obvious, which I think adds another layer of deterrence. I hesitate to refer to any cable lock as "anti-theft" since bolt cutters will always win, but this kit has served me well in discouraging less-motivated or ill-prepared thieves.I like the product, but it is a bit bulky for use with bicycles... If you consider yourself a "weight weenie," you may find it to be too much to carry. If you ride with a hydration pack stuffed with other gear and a lock for your bike as I do, you probably won't mind a little more weight. As a bonus, the second cable comes in handy for helping out your less-prepared riding partner.

I wish my thick cable worked for my bike helmet, but it doesn't. This is a nice little addition.The cable you thread through a bike helmet vent/hole is actually two cables, so you can attach a couple of items (bag? backpack?) to something. The cables stretch to about 5 feet (150cm) fully extended. The outer coating of the cable is a light plastic, nothing that should scuff or damage an item. Now it's not a thick cable - that's good for me - but a thief with bolt cutters can go through this pretty quickly.The lock that you attach the cables to has a rubber coating, again to protect items from damage. For some reason there's a small metal section near the combination lock, presumably to make it easier to slip the cables on. The combination is pretty simple to reset. The numbers don't show very well in low light situations. And the bolt on the lock is pretty short and probably can be forced, although I do like the design of the bolt fitting between two metal sections.This isn't an anti-theft device so much as a deterrence, only steal if you have the tools device. And for my bike helmet that's all I really need.

I've always understood that if someone is prepared to steal you stuff, there's no lock that will stop them. What a lock can do is make your stuff the least easy to steal. It's a bit like not needing to out run a bear, you just need to not be the slowest person being chased. In that regard, this is the cherry on top. I run one cable through my seat and frame, and the other through my helmet, and clip the carabiner to my panier rack. It's obviously very easy to cut a cable this size, but the point is that it's more work than usual. One thing I would have changed about it is that the lever to change the combo is a little too prominent and easy to activate. Until I read the instructions I assumed it was used to open the lock. Being on the inside of clip, it's realistic to imagine a cable pulling on the lever and accidentally changing the combo. I would have preferred a spring-loaded Allen key screw or something far more intentional. This is hardly a big deal and I am still very happy with this helmet lock. I recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller lock to secure their accessories.

This lock will not stop a determined thief. It claims to have 4 mm thick cables but that includes the insulation so it is not clear how thick the steel is in the cable. Not that it matters since the closure on the aluminum carabiner is also a point of weakness which could easily be defeated by a heavy pair of channel locks.None of the above matters particularly to me since I don't have a $1,000 helmet that someone is likely to be determined to steal. In fact, I can't imagine anyone wanting to steal my bug splattered well seasoned not horribly expensive helmet. But I can imagine some drunk wanting to steal it just to be a jerk. If that happens it is a BIG problem because at that point I am stranded wherever I happen to be and it is not something you can replace at the local gas station.This is where the peace of mind comes in. While this lock won't stop a determined thief, it certainly will frustrate the casual drunk intent on mischief and that is what I need. I like the curled 5 foot cables since they are compact and won't take up much space in the saddle bag and they also allow me to occasionally secure my jacket and other paraphernalia as well. With a combination lock it means no keys to misplace.Bottom line is this lock suits what I need perfectly. Recommended.

Being realistic, this size and style of cable lock won't stand up to being cut with a sharp pair of pliers if a thief is dedicated enough, so don't try to lock up your bike or scooter with it. But for protecting less valuable items like a helmet, it's enough of a deterrent to do the job. The carabiner is coated in a nice rubber material that will make handling it nicer in the cold weather. Setting and changing the code by following the included instructions is quick and easy. The number wheels also have a subtly clicky feel when rotating them so you can feel when they slot into the right position. It does the job as described. I have two things I'm kind of not crazy about. First, the numbers on the dial are hard to read. My close-up vision isn't great. I don't have to wear glasses when I ride. Last night, in a darkened parking lot, I couldn't read the numbers and that made the process of opening the lock kind of unpleasant. Second thing is that the the lock release kind of sticks, so you have to yank pretty hard to open it. It's not a problem, I guess, it just not as smooth as I would wish.

I rate this helmet lock as 4 stars because it's easy to use and gives me the flexibility to secure different items in various configurations, since I am not using it for a motorcycle. I did not try to cut through the cord to test, but I felt comfortable enough to use it to lock 4 suitcases and a backpack to the table when we couldn't locate the hotel key card, which had the hotel address and door number on it.
