Good way to ball park your front/rear tire alignment. Easy to attach and remove when finished. On some bikes you may have to work around the chain guard.

My bike's chain is starting to reach the end of its life. I'm trying to keep it going through the rest of this riding season by lubricating it frequently (every 3-500 miles, which for me is once or twice a month) and by cleaning it thoroughly every couple of thousand miles. On my bike, removing and reinstalling the chain is pretty easy, and I've gotten good at it.Aligning the chain is the most time-consuming part. Last time I did it by eye and got it fairly close, but I wanted something that would be quicker and more precise than my uncalibrated eyeball. There are a lot of knockoff versions of this tool floating around, but I've always had good luck with genuine Motion Pro stuff so I paid an extra couple of bucks (literally-- this tool is about $5 more expensive than the knockoff). In short, it works. The length of the rod makes it easy to dial in the alignment with good precision. I only knocked a star off because the tool is just barely wide enough to fit over my bike's sprocket (which has a chain guide riveted onto it). The only orientation that works on my sprocket is with the alignment bar on the inboard side of the chain, which makes it more difficult to get a top-down view of the alignment. I eventually got it but it took some messing around the first time. Next time I'm sure it will be much quicker. So I removed my chain, cleaned it (and scrubbed about a ton of road grime and grit off it), soaked it in gear oil, and let it drip overnight. The next day I installed it and used the alignment tool to get it dead-nuts. Good enough for my old bike, and I'll probably be able to finish the season with this tired chain.

This tool works great to get perfect axle alignment for your chain driven motorcycle. Don’t trust the factory marks.

Simple tool which made this job even easier. Use this for checking only and due to the value for money its a good little tool.

This tool removed all the guess-and-by-golly I was suffering through trying to get the front and rear sprockets realigned on my 2022 KLR. So simple to use: clamp it on the rear sprocket, sight down the rod,and you know instantly how aligned the chain and rear sprocket are. The right swingarm alignment bracket on this bike fits so loosely that it is impossible to align the rear wheel by comparing to left side bracket (per the service manual). Now, with this tool, aligning is a cinch to do; no guess work.

You'd be surprised how inaccurate the swingarm hash marks can be. On a dirtbike it aint too big a deal, but on a street bike, accuracy is quite important in my opinion. This tool takes the guess work out. It works great, but I wish the rod was a bit longer. Easy fix if a guy wanted to I suppose. The screws are plastic, but I figure that is by design to avoid marring any finish.

I read all the negative reviews but thought it was worth a try. Sure, the rod is short, but it's long enough to show if it aligns with the chain. It fits well over my Ducati's chain and sprocket. The device came in a cardboard box, but no damage and the rod was not bent. So in my case, at least, the purchase was good and it will be useful as a secondary check on the alignment.
