I was using a cheaper set of pastels from a well-known art store, but they were crumbly and dense and wouldn't layer or blend. After much research, I took a chance on the Mont Marte. Am I ever glad I did! They're soft, buttery, have a fantastic lay-down and are the easiest oil pastels I've ever worked with. They blend beautifully and the colours stay true, as shown in the attached work in progress. 100% would recommend these to anyone looking to move up from a student-quality pastel.

These were very easy to work with. I’m enjoying the brilliant colors and excited to try more neutral colors next.

These are so soft and blendable, and the colour arrangements are beautiful and strong. Pastels are the most fun because there's no paint to mix, or wait to dry, or to clean up. They are affordable and last a long time (if you're not doing large area backgrounds). Bought more sets, I love the extra whites in some sets, and sold separately.

I love these! Soft and creamy, but still able to use them with a medium amount of pressure applied. They blend like a dream. So many color options! Almost too many! I will be buying again!

These pastels have been an absolute delight to work with. Highly pigmented and soft. The best feature of the 120 set is the colour variety, especially standout is the range of light tones which make portraiture and daytime landscapes that much easier. This is especially helpful with oil pastels as any colour mixing typically happens on the canvas itself so going in with a wider arsenal of colours is a major benefit. Beautiful packaging and affordable price points are a bonus!

Love these! I have many oil pastel sets and these pastels have the softest, most creamy application. The color just glides on! I am not a professional nor do I use these in the standard way. I use the pastels for art journaling by laying down the color then rubbing it in with a cloth. This method leaves behind the color as a background or as embellishment on a work in progress. Only the lightest colors tend to lift out, yet are still visible.I purchased this set to get the beautiful colors it contains. The varied colors are rich and certainly add to my art journaling. There are colors to complement any watercolor combo I use. It is difficult to find colors that are outside of the "norm." Colors blend well and you don't need much to have an impact.I also have the Mont Marte brand water-soluble oil pastels and they are great also. Largest color selection available that I am aware of.If only they would also make this 120-pc set in water-soluble pastels I would be so happy!Overall this 120-pc set is a dream to use and offers such a great color range. I'd suggest it for beginners upward. Get it - you'll have such fun with it!!

These high quality smooth and creamy oil pastels are so rich and easy to blend to create the best effects. They have really performed well in my art class for portrait to landscape. I have not been disappointed. Even my instructor was impressed by the quality and the product it produced.

This is an excellent set of oil pastels. They are soft and creamy and easy to blend. The sticks do not break easily and the colors are rich and vibrant, although this particular set has more neutral colors so the colors are softer and more muted which are absolutely perfect for landscapes. And the price is very reasonable. I just took a shot in the dark ordering the Mont Marte brand and I couldn't be happier. I proceeded to order a larger set of the brighter more vibrant colors as well. You won't be disappointed as long as you order the box that says "Extra Soft". However, if you're looking for oil pastels to lay down an initial layer, then their regular variety will work fine. I have both. The "extra soft" is best for the final and top layers, however I do use them also for the initial layer. No problem at all.

Loving the colours and creamy texture of these pastels, however they arrived kind of messed up and partially damaged in the box.

{mixed media in my sketchbook; the ladybug and left leaves were created with these oil pastels}They almost seem too good to be true at this price. I almost didn’t order them because I was skeptical; they were in my cart for weeks. But I finally decided to take the chance, and I’m glad I did.The tradeoff is that they smell like cheap lipstick. The colors are vibrant and they are opaque (except for the neons). When I opened the box, there were a few that were jumbled around in the lower tray. None were broken or missing. They’re so soft that they did smudge each other a bit - but that’s nothing a paper towel can’t fix. These pastels blend like a dream. Did I say that already? It’s worth saying twice. In fact, here’s once more for good measure. They. Blend. Like. A. Dream.Bonus points for the color selection. I have the 120 Mungyo Gallery artist’s extra soft pastels too, and this set of Mont Marte ones fill the color gaps really nicely. Especially in the pastel colors which is great for highlights.Normally I don’t like metallic or pearls, which Mr. Marte must have been aware of, as there are only three in this set. A pearl white, silver, and gold, and the gold is *incredible*.Overall, i think the only thing that rats them out as a lower price brand is the wrapper on the sticks. Some are a bit loose or unevenly pasted. Nothing that affects the art, just a small annoyance.I haven’t looked into lightfastness ratings, which I know is a concern for a few people out there. If you’re a professional artist who sells your work, this is something you might want to test or write an email to them to ask.I’m really glad I decided to buy these pastels. I’m really enjoying them. The lipstick smell does seem to fade over time, or maybe I am becoming blind to it. At any rate: they’re worth it.And in case I failed to mention — they blend like a dream.
