The support brackets collapsed because they were assembled without sufficient glue. I had to install woodscrews to make them strong enough. The channels for the brackets to slide in were too narrow causing the brackets to bind. Several hours were reqired to make the performance acceptable.

This unit just arrived yesterday, I have not used it yet, but have a few observations already. Yes, it is pricey, and after looking at the rusty hardware furnished with it, and the sloppy “washer-nuts”, also rusty, feel that the price is excessive. There is NO finish on the plywood whatsoever. I was expecting better from Mojotone. The plywood itself is good, the machining of the parts is pretty good, albeit with rough edges and a few dirty fingerprints here and there. This should be priced about half of the asking in the condition received. It does come in a sturdy box with foam inserts, and thankfully not styrofoam. I don’t know where this is made, but it reeks of overseas. I had been tinkering with the idea of some other products from mojotone, but if this is representative of their quality level out the door, I will definitely reconsider. So what do we have here? We have a nice starting place with something to go from mediocre to pretty decent with some extra effort. Maybe I am fussy, yes, but I will give the wooden parts a good sanding, and some sort of finishing, maybe several coats of shellac, or some sort of satin polyurethane. The supplied hardware is headed for the trash can. Where applicable, I will install threaded inserts and a better grade of thumbscrews with washers. As far as being suitable for its intended function, this will do the job very nicely, One could set any conceivable guitar amp chassis into it, and have a pretty safe and secure means for working on the amp. It’s gets 3 stars due to the functionality, but for quality and value for the price, it would be a 2, maybe. I’m disappointed. This item or something like it was listed on Stewart McDonald once upon a time, and I can see why they would have dropped it.*********Review Update**********After having used this unit for several amp repair work, and a couple of kit builds, this stand beats the dickens out of using some blocks, bricks or what have you to support nearly any amp chassis. It even held up well to a 70’s era Fender Twin chassis and we all know how hefty those are. Not at all sorry I bought it, but the original views above still apply.

It comes unfinished. I put one coat of water based Polyurethane, After it dried I gave it a light sanding and hit it with a coat of paste wax. It worked great for building a guitar amp. It is nice and sturdy and the little tool holding trays on the sides keep small parts from making an escape. The only negative and it wasn't enough to knock it down a star is the the thumb screws were corroded. I contacted Mojotone directly and they sent me replacements. The replacements they sent were the new style with the round knob on the end, which I thought were harder to to turn. So I used some solvent and a wire wheel and the cleaned up enough to use.One thing I did do was on the two flat round blind nuts used on the cradles I put 3 little screws in each one which made tightening them much easier. You couldn't do that for the ones that hold the uprights up because they have to slide on the base to accommodate the size chassis you are working on.

I like the stability and simplicity of the design. The expansion mechanism is pretty basic but it holds firmly once set. I stained mine with some spare Maple Pecan stain I had laying around and it really added some class to the plain blond birch. I also put some felt sticky pads on the bottom to work better with my benchtop. Kind of pricey for what you get (that's why 4 stars) but I don't regret buying it.

Takes up a lot of desk space but it’s worth it.

$10 in lumber and some hardware make up this particular item. It is perfect for what it does but if you have any woodworking tools then I'd suggest making your own.

For amplifier repair, as it was designed for, it does very well. The pivoting feature is very helpful.
