if it's too long you can always make it shorter but I'll tell you what you need to put some stretch on these things watch YouTube video how to connect them together if it's a flat belt if it's a round one they are easier. don't cut it at an angle just cut them straight. more service area does not help, taking 10% out of the length for stretch factor or whatever you want to call it does help. if the belt slips duh it's cuz it's too long you're not the only one directions 10% off the overall length for every 10 inches take off one inch. but these things work great for lathes you have to pull them tight take out all the shrinkage that they say you should they're impressive easy to put together if you don't overthink it even put together not evenly if there's a little offset a little bit still work fine. I'm done
