I like the flexibility this gives me in my shop. I have my miter saw on a mobile stand and this hood easily travels with it, keeps dust way more contained. I don't have a vacuum system with the large opening this hood has but I would say that it would work great with suction added. It folds up over the miter saw for storage.

In the interest of full disclosure, as a trusted and unbiased Amazon reviewer, I was able to request this product free of charge. This is a useful addition to your chop saw. It works well and having a 4 inch port to suck up the dust gives you a lot more air volume which is what you want in collecting dust. It does take up a lot of space when attached; it is large. I believe the large size is necessary to sufficiently enclose the saw to capture as much dust as possible. When attached properly to your chop saw brackets (assuming you are using a stand), it is easy to move the saw and the enclosure does not interfere with using the extensions on your stand. I am using this with a Makita chop saw and stand and this is very easy to install on that stand. While the mounting hardware seems quite substantial, you do get a bit of flex as there is quite a bit of torque produced by the enclosure. There is a slotted bracket that attaches to each end of the enclosure. It would be more secure if it had an oblong slot sealed at each end. This would make removal slightly more difficult, but well worth it for the added security and strength of the mount. Unless you are a contractor that requires you to be transporting this often, once you set it up you are going to leave it that way. If you are a contractor and you are moving this around, what is the likelihood that you would have a portable dust collector with a 4 inch port - not very high I think. So to strengthen the mount I discarded the screws, bolts and wingnuts that were included and replaced everything with 1/4 inch bolts and nuts. I also used 2 bolts for each attachment point. This makes it a lot stronger and safer. There is a 4 inch coiled spring on the inside of the hood at the junction of the attachment port. It is compressed with a wire tie. I believe the purpose of this is to guarantee some space between the hood and the port. You want to make sure you remove the wire tie prior to use.I like this enclosure. It is so much better than using the tiny port that comes with most chop saws. Of course you need a suitable dust collector to use this. I don't know how well it would work with just a shop vac and an appropriate adapter.I am deducting a star because the mounting hardware does not have slots that are closed at both ends and I feel all the bracket joints should use 2 bolts. Using the extra bolts is easy to correct. These are commonly available, but if you don't have any you have to go and buy them.

With several reviews for this posted I'll keep this one short. The smell mentioned is there, but it did go away in a week for me.On a 12" sliding miter saw this larger hood was still an installation that needed a few tweaks to get set up right. The lights are not the brightest but welcome and needed as this hood can block ambient lightingMy saw has the light for a blade guide so that actually works better having this hood blocking some ambient light, so a trade off there that is fine for me.Dust containment was the reason for this hood, and it works well!I have a shop dust collection system and modifying the Miter saw dust port for this new hood was expected and easy, collection is good and having the hood vs a line to the saw's dust port has made a LARGE difference in the dust in the air! This has it quirks but is serving me well and I am happy with this hood!

This miter saw dust collection hood works well. It's actually quite large, and makes my 10-inch saw look small. After getting over the initial awful, fishy odor, the hood turned out to be fairly easy to put together. There's a good set of instructions. It looks to be adaptable to anything up to a 12-inch saw. Plus, it's deep, too, so sliding saws shouldn't have a problem. The hood is held in place by 3 spring steel ribs that hinge near the miter saw's fence. The depth of the hood can be adjusted using those ribs. And, the whole thing can be stowed by tightening those ribs into a tight circle, just like one of those umbrella things for the dashboard of a car. This will come in handy when doing work away from home. The connection to the dust extraction is good, but it has a 100mm outer diameter, so it didn't initially fit with my 4-inch stuff. The LED light works, and given that this hood blocks a lot of light, the included LED is essential. They're just held in place by some elastic, so they take some fiddling to get adjusted properly. Also, the opening to the hood is quite large, about 26 inches, and there's no means to adjust this.

I often take my miter saw outside to use because I hate cleaning up the mess afterwards. It's not light and is a bit wieldy to carry around without bumping against my door frame going out or coming back in my garage. I wanted one of these for a while and, when I saw this, I decided to grab one. It was fairly easy to set up and the light around the rim is an extra bonus. With my dust collector attached, I have very little to clean up now and I've found myself using it more than I used to. I got used to using my table saw for simple cuts that now I cut with my miter saw. This miter saw collection hood is a welcome addition to my little garage woodshop. If you are thinking of ordering this for your saw, it makes cutting less of a hassle for me and probably would for most people too.

This dust hood is built really well and has enough weight to handle all the sawdust I'll be making now and later. I connected it to my miter saw stand, and it's made everything so much easier. Cleanup is minimal compared to what I used to deal with. Just a heads up; the hood is really big, so you’ll need to find a spot for it if you keep it attached as I did.

I have a vacuum attached to my miter saw, but sometimes if I'm working on several projects, attaching the vacuum hose to several tools at a time can be time consuming and a real pain in the neck. Having this mitre saw dust shroud is going to allow me to work with other tools making projects more manageable. I do everything I can to keep the saw dust at a minimum and this is going to help me do just that in a bigger and easier way.
