It spirts water all over everything. The hood that is provided is always visible - it doesn't produce enough fog to cover it. This really needs a floater to keep the fog machine just a few inches under the water; otherwise, it's a huge pain to use. I'll give this little device credit - it's small and powerful, making a lot of dense fog almost instantly. However, it heats the water up very quickly and to a quite warm temperature. This means it's really not appropriate for use in a terrarium or anywhere an animal or child could come into contact with it.The lights are bright and it makes a neat effect, especially when using the included done attachment. Not using the dome resulted in water being thrown everywhere, and it was pretty warm, so there's also a risk of some splash causing an injury or at the least, some discomfort.I'm trying to figure out how this could be used safely to create a fog effect for a plant case, display at a party, or to fog up the room at some other gathering type event. Right now, I haven't been able to figure out how to do so without some risk of injury.If I work it out, I'll be sure to update the review, but as of right now, I can't really recommend this product, especially if there are kids or critters that could come into contact with it during use.

I really tried to make this fogger perform at any level of satisfaction. I guess it deserves 1 star for simply generating fog. The only scenario I can think of it actually functioning somewhat as described is if you have a 'bowl' or pond that is very wide, maybe 36inches diameter + with a way to centrally suspend the device only 3/4 inch under water. Here are some things you should know before ordering.1. Although advertised as being usable in a vase, bowl, fountain - you will find that it does not generate enough fog to show unless you look down into the vase, fountain or bowl. If you have it in something shallow enough that you do not have to 'look down into' you'll find it expels a lot of water making a mess or even depleting the necessary water level to make it work.2. It can only be used for 8 hours at a time so you will have to continuously tend to it in a pond or fountain - keep in mind it can only be submerged less than 1.6 inches3. The colorful lights cannot be turned off separately nor can you have light without the colors4. I tried it at every level of water noted (between .8 to 1.6 inches) and it only generates a decent amount of fog at the lowest levels. Even then it is not enough to show above 5 inches of an OVERALL depth.5. The corrosion resistant splash guard (aka milky plastic) ALWAYS shows above the fog (ugly to me)6. It does not create a "fantastic or magical atmosphere" (unless you are under 6 inches tall)7. It does not "add visual aesthetics to the room" (again, unless you are 6 inches tall in a 14 inch room!)8. And because the fog cannot leave an 8 inch deep vase or bowl I don't see how it can humidify a room, but maybe there is science I don't understand.I hate giving a bad review, but I tried everything I could think of and it just didn't perform as stated for me.
